Are you moving out of a FEMA trailer?

The Disaster Housing Assistance Program (DHAP) can help assist you with your rental bills. The following requirements are needed for you to qualify for this program:

• Your landlord must accept DHAP assistance
• DHAP must agree on the amount of rent they are assisting with
• Your apartment will need to be inspected
• You must agree to work with a case manager with the goal of making you and your family self-sufficient

The program will help you pay rent. However, beginning March 1, 2008, the portion of the rent you are responsible with will increase by $50 per month. For example, DHAP covers all of your rent in February, then in March you will pay $50, in April you will pay $100, in May you will pay $150 and so on. The program is currently set to expire March 1, 2009. There are some exceptions to the rules if you have a disability or if you are elderly.

New Orleans Legal Assistance will be at the DHAP office from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Noon) on Monday through Thursday for legal assistance you may need in this situation.
