Yesterday, June 1, marked the first day of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting that there will be six to nine hurricanes forming in the Atlantic Ocean this summer (two to five of which are expected to be a Category 3 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson Scale). You can find this information here. (http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2008/20080522_hurricaneoutlook.html) In 2006, the Advocacy Center prepared evacuation information and tips for people with disabilities and conducted a survey of Louisiana parishes' emergency plans for people with disabilities and the elderly. Find out more here: (http://www.advocacyla.org/news/emergency.php). Be prepared. Make sure you have an evacuation plan and a disaster supply kit. Information on this can be found here: http://www.cityofno.com/pg-46-4-emergency-guide-for-citizens-with-disabilities.aspx For emergency preparedness information in American Sign Language, go to http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/dem/pages/deaflink.htm or http://www.cepintdi.org/default.aspx?pageid=174
