I just wanted to wish everybody on Disaboom a Happy Whatever!

Our Little Guy (not so little, he's a senior in high school this year) is in the Concert Choir. They had a formal recital last week and he was really excited to participate.

We live in a mountain bedroom community (meaning we're in fairly easy commuting distance to the city), and to be perfectly honest, one of the drawbacks to our idyllic town is that there isn't a great deal of diversity up here. Ok, to be more honest----there is practically none.

Colorado Springs has had the "Wonderbread City" moniker laid on it for years. Unfortunately, the color of the bread gets paler the farther you travel up into the mountains. I don't actually know why, because our little town works really hard at being inclusive.

So we went to the Holiday Choir concert (men's, women's and mixed), full of anticipation. The kids were radiant and gorgeous. They sang beautifully. The selections were an odd bag though.

We were surprised that there were songs about Christmas, and Jesus in particular---like "Go Tell it on the Mountain", given how hard our town works at being PC. There was a song in Latin, and a Hebrew tune as well. There was a Jamaican song, Carly Simon's "Let the River Run", several generic winter tunes (one about snow and marshmallows), a song from the Disney flick "Anastasia", and a really fantabulous African finale with drums.

Oh, and a blues song from the women's choir that basically said "my mama warned me about bad men like you", which was kind of weird, given the season. Happy Holidays! LOL

A week or so ago, I read an article about a British guy who made up his own Nativity Scene that was more or less parodying an attempt to be PC in every shape and form. He missed a few spots, but it's pretty funny.

Again, whatever you celebrate, Happy Whatever in the next couple of weeks!
