Hello artists, thanks for letting me join! I'm new to Disaboom. I'm excited about having a place to talk about art with others who are disabled. I have some able-bodied artist friends, but they have trouble relating to my issues with my body. I'm 50 and started back for my second round of college year before last. The first time I was 31 and partially disabled. I had to wear a back brace in classes and took a lot of medication, but my body didn't affect my art abilities as much as it does now. Also, I've learned to stand up for myself a bit more. So instead of just popping a lot of pills for pain, I'm trying to create a better situation for myself so I don't have as much pain. This school I go to in Idaho is so far behind on the ADA. Well, the city isn't much better. Are there any other art students out there that have similar experiences? In my last art class, last fall, when I went into meet with the teacher Re: disabilities and accessibility, he said there was no room for my accommodations in that classroom. Unbelievable. I'm trying to get a special easel made -- -- hopefully voc rehab and or the school will help. I found an awesome sculptor to design it. Anybody else use any specially made artists equipment? I'm posting my artwork on this site and look forward to seeing all of yours and talking to you.
