This past weekend was not only a holiday weekend, but it was also the start of Traverse City's National Cherry Festival. My calendar has been booked with attending fun events-fireworks, air shows, an art fair and a Julianne Hough concert.
I am a HUGE fan of the Navy Blue Angels and the Army Golden Knights. Now it may seem kind of surprising that mini me with next-to-no muscles is so gung-ho about our military's strongest and finest. What I love about them, though, is their tremendous outreach effort.
The Blue Angels went out of their way to be sure I had great access to all of their high-flying action. They remembered me from attending previous air shows and they took time out of their busy agendas to communicate with me and make me feel welcome. It is always uplifting to see a group of people dedicating themselves to putting on a safe, thrilling, inspiring performance. To spend even a few minutes with this compassionate team is a privilege.
The Golden Knights overwhelmed me, too! On Sunday, they included me in their day's activities and presented me with their prestigious baton. I love the story behind it. When the sport of skydiving started, people didn't think it was possible to pass an object from one person to another in the air. They found a way to do it with a baton, so the baton presentation is symbolic of being able to achieve something that others didn't believe was possible. What an honor for me to receive such an incredible gift.
Go, Navy! Go, Army! You can recruit me as a supporter anytime!
