I have always loved Ira Glass on NPR, and just clued into his utterly nonstop compelling showtime series "This American Life".
Season 2 opens up with an episode titled "Escape" which focuses on the drive for independence of a disabled man named Mike Philips.
Mike has spinal muscular atrophy, which at 27, has left him with only the use of his face and one finger. A recent injury put him on a ventilator, and as such he is unable to speak.
He lives with his Mother, who also serves as his round the clock caregiver, but desires to be independent, so he puts out an ad and hires his own aide. Emboldened, he puts an ad on craiglist and finds a girlfriend named Sara.
Because Mike cannot use his own voice, Ira Glass asks him who he would prefer do his narrating - and so the episode is then narrated in part by Johnny Depp. excellent choice mike!
It really is an incredible story, and you can watch a clip HERE on showtime's site.
