Governor Eliot Spitzer of New York State has been linked to a high-priced prostitution ring, using evidence gleaned from a federal wiretap. While Spitzer ignored three reporters' queries about the possibility of a resignation at his initial press conference, he is expected to resign later today.

 David Paterson

Spitzer's resignation would mean a leap forward politically for both the disability community and for racial diversity. Lieutenant Governor David Paterson is next in line to ascend to the office of New York Governor. He is legally blind, as well as the first African- American ever to hold the office of Lieutenant Governor in the state of New York. He stands to become the first black Governor of New York and the first blind Governor in the United States, if Eliot Spitzer indeed resigns this evening.

Paterson, an avid sports fan and former State Senate Minority Leader in New York, is also an avid advocate for the disability community. He was elected as a member of the American Foundation for the Blind's board of trustees. He also serves as a member of the Democratic National Committee.

Stay tuned: Within the next 24 hours, we may be able to anticipate the swearing-in of the first blind Governor in the country!

Does anyone know where we can send or e-mail a message of support to Mr. Paterson?

I met him when I was volunteering with the Wounded Warrior Project at Windham Mountain.  He is really nice and a great speaker!  Although I am a Republican, I am looking forward to his leadership of New York!

I am new to posting here, and maybe I am out of line, but being disabled myself does not give me the right to be an elected offical who has three way sex with wife and another male while smoking pot and doing coke, to be proven while the rooom was being paid for on the peoples tax dollars! Even people like me do not deserve such privaliges and most certain does not this a great governor make! What else will he admit to next? How is he better than the past Governor? Does he being a Demagrat make it less a sin to cheat?

Excuse my bad typos, but I can not use my right hand anymore....and I am fast going blind also, but I do not use illegal drugs to help my pain.

    Sincerely, epoole59
