The Deafness in concert. The band’s name might not be ironic, but one element of the story is: despite the fact that it’s a story about people who are deaf, and despite the fact that The Guardian is one of the UK’s largest news sources, the video posted on The Guardian’s website isn’t captioned.

The Deafness is a band that takes its name literally: each of its members is deaf or hearing impaired.  The band is a group of four teenage music lovers who met at the Mary Hare School for deaf children in Berkshire, England, and decided to form a band.

Instead of relying on audio cues only, the band uses eye contact and hand signals to synchronize with each other, and the system they use works marvelously: they sound a lot better than the average garage band.

The members of the Deafness love what they do.  They recently performed at Music for Youth’s Schools Prom and received recognition from the event’s sponsors for their performance.

The caption the Disabled Politico gives The Guardian for this:  FAIL.

I viewed the video today, and it has now been captioned. Someone was "listening" :)
