When I go from one place to another in my wheelchair am I walking or rolling? True, I am not literally walking but I am still "taking a walk". When I think of rolling, I think of rolling down a grassy hill as a child or doing a series of somersaults. For some reason I cannot say "See ya honey, I'm going for a roll!"
It may be that I am in disabilty denial. As I push my chair in my mind I am still walking. It's crazy to admit that, but it's true. So when I meet my friends at a restaurant that is 2 miles from my home and they wonder how I got there, I say I walked there ... they say I rolled there. Who is right?
What do you call it?

My husband uses a wheelchair and when we get ready to go anywhere I always say, "Let's roll." I can't recall ever saying, "Let's go for a walk." Instead, I'll say things like, "Let's go around the block."
I don't think it really matters so much whether you say you're going for a roll or going for a walk as long as you're comfortable with your terminology.

Yep... I too say: I'm off rollin'. It's even on my home answering machine, "You missed me, I must be out rollin'"!
The pedestrians that I 'run with' have taken to using bikes to keep up! <lol> Especially since I rarely go for a leisurely stroll anymore... its more like 'Haulin' Ass', even on a peaceful evenings jaunt in the moonlight! (I adore wind in my hair.)
Best wishes in your travels, even those that roll 'round the block. xx0x0xx
Thank you for the comments. Jean, I think you're right about using the terminology you are comfortable with. I realize the non disabled community is comfortable with "rolling" so I can be too.
I totally know what you mean! In my mind when I'm wheeling along, in my mind I picture myself wlaking. I also still use the term "I'm going for a walk", or "I'll just run out and get that".
I used to think it was because I was newly disabled but it's been almost six years now and I still feel that way. My friends are always teasing and correcting me but I don't think I'll ever stop saying it. Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one and that I'm not insane!
