Politics and Disability Issues

5/17/2008 at 02:43 PM

May 17, 2008

This was an exciting week for Disaboom as we announced the first presidential candidate to create their personal profile on our website.  Senator Barack Obama created his profile which can be at viewed at http://www.disaboom.com/barackobama/.As reported this week in CNN Money.com (http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/marketwire/0395665.htm) , through Disaboom.com presidential candidates will be able to list their position statements, record on disability issues, blog about campaign events and key statements. Video messaging from the candidates is possible. There will be opportunities for Disaboom community members to ask questions of the candidates and participate in political forums. This is a monumental step forward in the representation of disability-related issues on a national presidential scale.  Disaboom is nonpartisan and welcomes all political views and candidates to be highlighted and discussed.  We have also had communications with Senator McCain's office and are planning to post their profile in the near future.  We are hoping that all presidential candidates will be represented on Disaboom as the community gives direct input to further advance issues related to disability.

there is a need for everyone to get involved politically to try to have more control over the issues that affect us.our men and women returning from war with mental and physical disabilities also need representation, from what i know, they too are getting neglected.thanks for bringing attention to the importance of  our involvement in the political process.

fabulous idea, and I'm excited to hear from more politicians.  so much of their plans/policies reflect input from the public or caregivers and not enough, from what I noticed, from persons with disabilities.  hopefully this will be a way towards greater participation for the disability community.

People with Disabilities represent the largest minority in America.  It's due time that politicians stop ignoring this fact and start listening.  I am thrilled to see Barack Obama on the site.  I would hope that the rest of the candidates think this issue just as important!
