It's usually fairly easy for me to keep my two blogs separated because my place on Disaboom is dedicated to all my thoughts on disability-related issues and I use "If the World Had Wheels" for my personal stories and a place to rattle on about my other loves in life. This weekend's events were SO H*UG*E* that I just feel the urge to tell everyone. I've been anxious to share the news with other Disaboomers.....So here goes!
I got engaged!
Adam and I have been dating for several years but I was honestly completely surprised! The proposal was perfect and totally me...I really can't imagine being happier. The shock is beginning to subside and I think I'll bask in the joy for at least a few more days before I ponder any serious decisions. We've got so many things to consider with dates and details. Because most of my milestones have been reached in untraditional ways, I've always wanted my wedding to be the one thing that isn't necessarily "different", adapted, or modified. I'd like it to be traditional, but also showcase our personalities, be a blast for our friends and family, and celebrate us! Not to much to ask, right!?
I've never been the girl with wedding magazines because I felt like that was presumptuous and would spoil the fun when I actually was ready to plan the big day. Now that it's official-today I purchased my first magazine and I must say...it's a bit overwhelming! It's fairly clear that denying disability is going to play a factor in the wedding plans is a bit ridiculous so I'm ready to think about my modified options. Finding a dress is going to be fairly tricky and we haven't decided which parts of the reception traditions we'll include (couple dance? bride/father dance? groom/mother dance?). It's enough to make my head spin! Which is precisely why for now...I'm in total avoidance of serious decisions and just like to smile and look at my empty finger...my ring's off getting sized. When it returns, THEN I'll get to the decisions!
I'll leave you with a picture. We took this one BEFORE dinner and the proposal.
Thanks for providing me a fun place to share my news! Feel free to let the advice, suggestions, and wedding thoughts fly!
