I've just this evening joined Disaboom, as I am the wife of a lovely man diagnosed with ALS. The past year has been most difficult for us both. I have kept a journal and I hope to share some things I've learned, and make contact with other caregivers, especially wives. And specifically, I need to find out how to take my husband to Phoenix this winter. Seriously. I want to do that and I need some help with connecting with resources. Is this the place to begin?

Re: Being Inspiring Isn't about You

Thanks for sharing your experience, Clark. Sounds like you came to a similar realization - that's it is about truly hearing and acknowledging the other person's words.

Re: Being Inspiring Isn't about You

After reading this I am responding differently. I too have just shrugged off or felt uncomfortable with people saying that to me, but I see it differently now. My Mother has told me a few times "I am so proud of you" I always shrugged it off becasue I did not feel like I deserved that comment, but one day I looked her in the eye and said "thank you, it is becasue of you" the look on her face was priceless. She knew I finally heard her. So after reading this I will hopefully not just brush off any compliment someone throws my way.

Do It Myself Blog - Glenda Watson Hyatt » Traveling with Autism

Pingback from Do It Myself Blog - Glenda Watson Hyatt » Traveling with Autism

Do It Myself Blog - Glenda Watson Hyatt » Traveling with Autism

Pingback from Do It Myself Blog - Glenda Watson Hyatt » Traveling with Autism

I Survived Las Vegas!

Hi everyone! When it comes to Tourist you will find the city very accomidating. Up to and including wheelchair hieght Blackjack and Poker tables.
If you stay on the strip you have choices of the Monorail, Shuttles and Taxis wheelchair accesable. You may have to wait for 15 minutes for Taxi's, but not long. Busses here also have a two chair max.
My travels always include that lousy 3 hour buffer to get to the gate area, insuring that all gate and flight crews are aware of your needs.
If you want your chair at the door when you land, NEVER give it up untill you are boarded. This way the crew KNOWS you have a personal chair that needs to be retrieved on landing. It dosent go through normal baggage handeling this way either. Both land and flight crews ensure the loading. Make sure you have non-fluid batteries. I also keep a backpack on my chair. Its a pain at security but a little more carrying space to escape luggage charges.
No one sleeps in Begas so Sunday is an option to you. If you are on the Strip or downtown there is 95% always a way to get you to the Airport in a timely fashion. Part of these problems are due to what conventions and other activities are going on in town during your visit.
Can't speak to Vancouver though, never been there.

Do It Myself Blog - Glenda Watson Hyatt » Tips for Communicating with the Left Thumb Blogger

Pingback from Do It Myself Blog - Glenda Watson Hyatt » Tips for Communicating with the Left Thumb Blogger

Re: Move Over Summer, Here Comes a Full Fall

I'm so jealous-- BlogWorld!!!
