Do you feel inferior? Are you cranky? Apparently the Chinese government thinks so:
Disabled Groups Outraged by Beijing Snub
Disabled groups reacted with outrage yesterday to an official guide for assistants at the Beijing Olympic Games that describes them as unsocial, stubborn and defensive.
The guide for Chinese volunteers at the Games this summer explains that disabled people are a “special group” with “unique personalities and ways of thinking”.
The section of the manual entitled “Skills for helping the disabled” goes on to say: “Some physically disabled are isolated, unsocial, and introspective. They can be stubborn and controlling . . . defensive and have a strong sense of inferiority.
“Sometimes they are overly protective of themselves, especially when they are called crippled or paralysed. Do not use ‘cripple’ or ‘lame’ even if you are just joking.”
Oh, it gets better. Here's just one of the gems from the comments on that article: "So the Chinese made a mistake. At least they're challenging attitudes prevalent in comments here, that all disabled people are the same with chips on their shoulder."
Or, how about this one:
"Call me jaded, but doesn't their "outrage" kinda prove the point?"
Yep... if we object to the prejudice being displayed against us we are simply cranky. That would make Martin Luther King, what? a lovable curmudgeon? Good lord. I'm so disgusted I don't really have anything to say about it. You KNOW that's bad.

You know, I mean, it IS China. These are the same morons that had to race to install normal toilets for the athletes because they didn't realize that a goodly chunk of the civilized world doesn't LIKE to use squat toilets.
I still don't understand WHY the Olympic committee thought picking China was a good idea.
I just shake my head at all this, because, it's CHINA. Yes, I feel sorry for the suffering of their people. But let's face it, their government has their heads firmly shoved up their asses. And unless or until they start changing their ways, this kind of stuff will always happen with them. I mean, hell, they still have problems with girl babies being aborted or killed or given up for adoption because they want boys! You really think with deeply entrenched mysogynistic and patriarchial ways like that, they will seriously get their act together in the next couple of months?
Oh, HELL no. I have been pissed about China being picked from day one. Mostly because of Tibet, but also because of the way their people are oppressed in general. This just adds insult to injury. Gggrrrr!!
And not to forget, these are the same people who are doing FORCED HARVESTING of BODY ORGANS from the "peasants" for the "elite," and to sell on the world market. There is a SERIOUS culture gap. . .Bonnie
