Howdy Ya'll,

Well,  on June 23rd I had my lower right leg amputated.  I was very lucky to have such a great surgeon.  The prosthetist said mmmmm what a great incision and a beautiful stitch job.  I guess I did good or somebody did good.  With all the people that were praying for me and sending me angels I had to do well.  My friends have brought home made dinners and my favorite key lime pie and tons of support.  I am so blessed.

My amputation went well.  I had pain pills, but really had little pain. The pain pills made my day fun. They also stopped up my plumbing, thank God for stool softners.  I experienced some phantom pains but they went away when I rubbed my stump.  I fell once and landed on my stump, but thankfully did no damage.

Mentally I am doing great, my attitude is great and I am anxious to get my temporary leg.  I know it will be a challange but I am up for it.......Bring it on!  I read a good article in Active Living Magazine about skin care for your stump, (My daughter named my stump, STEVE, what a nut).  The ideal soap to wash it with is Phisohex.  It is perscription only but has bacteria kitlling power and it builds up immunity on the skin against the bacteria.  Phisoderm is over the counter but does not have the bacteria fighting properties.  I'm sure ya'll know about this, but it was news to me!

If I were talking to my daughter she would ask me how Steve is doing today,  I would answer, He's behaving but he is swollen.  I don't know what he got into to get so swollen, I'm gonna have to watch that darn Steve! Then we laugh, sounds crazy but it makes me laugh, and I like to laughParadiseBig Smile Take me away to Margaritaville, hmm hmm hmm end of song.

Life after amputation is good, no more ankle pain.

Peace    Linda

Well, I'm finally back!  It is July 21, 2008, and I think I'm out of the woods.  I fell one too many times and broke open my stitches.  I had to go back to surgery on July 14.  The Doc cleaned it out, saw no infection did some cultures and sewed me back up.  Now I'm beginning to heal again, thank goodness!  I have to start from square one with the prosthetist, so obviously I'm being VERY careful not to fall again.

My daughter and my 15 month old grandson came last week to help me out.  Two surgeries in 3 wks was enough to make anyone feel crummy.  My grandson got sick with a bad cold the first day he was here.  He was veery cranky all week.  My daughter did a great job juggling a sick baby and a helpless Mom.  What made matters worse, it was 95 to 100 degrees outside, and we don't have air conditioning.  Thank God our basement is finished.  I lived down there for 3 days.  I'm saving my pennies to get air conditioning before next summer.

The day I fell, my husband got news that his Grandpa passed away.  He had to go, so my daughter saw me through the second surgery.  He came back Weds nite and I sure was glad to see him.  He's been taking care of me for so long he just knows what I need without asking.  For 3 years he's done all the laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning the house, and even watering my menagerie of plants.  I'm going to have to do something very special for him one of these days.

That's it for now buckaroos and bucarooettes, see you later!

Linda

I am a 28 year old amputee.I caught an infection when I was 26and my left leg was amputated above the knee. I have Lupus and that has brought a lot of complications.I also gave my stump a nick name since day 1, I call it "the moniona". When I caught the infecction, I had a toxic shock, that gave me 2 heart attacks and was resucitated, my lungs collapsed, and kidneys failed. I woke up 3 weeks later realizing my leg was gone and I had a hole in my track (my throat)and could not talk. I am still going up and down with my moods, but I know that family and hope is something that strengthens your soul. For me, it is a 180 degree turn in my life, but it has changed me alot and I try to make the best out of every situation.

Hi linda.........June 23rd.......makes the big change in your life fairly new.......no......really new ! But......your attitude tells me that you're going to make the transition a very smooth one........I think you're going to get to the other side of this challenge with flying colors ! You're remembering how uncomfortable you were before.........not all the stumbling blocks you may encounter....after. You need to be congratulated for your positive.......forward thinking attitude. I admire your courage and determination to make things work !........Peace and lve to you........Norma

Hi Linda, I'm sorry to hear that you have had probs, falling and more surgery and please pass on my condolences to your husband - I think the grandchild/grandparent relationship can be so special. What would we do without our kids eh? The middle part of my suture line has died and the flesh is basically rotting so it is dressings every day. I am off to the limb specialist tomorrow morning but like you I don't think much can be done whilst the wound is still a bit messy. I am finding I can now do more without my leg, how are you finding life now. Anyway love to you and yours - and put more lemonade in the vodka, you will fall less ha ha. Seriously - as my nan would say !"you should be more careful when you know how clumsy you are" Take care, Jill
