I know I have not made the best impression upon all my friends here on Disaboom. The only thing I dislike is not enough people stand me down. I am a loud mouth ass, and yes I know it! But I like you all!

BUT, I am a twidler in the internet and have since been told I should leave. (see the copy of the letter below). The name in question is my grand daughters name. I reserve the right to own that name, and believe I can sue them for my copyright infringment.

Although you all are kinda weak in telling the new guy that he needs to regroup, I still respect your opinions.

To fill you in, I have no money, I live on SS and make ends meet. But I have friends that will love to take this to the end... Should I??????

Please be honest, (remember, I miss the people that call me an ass). You can not hurt my feelings.....

Out of all the links I posted in the last two blogs, I never really posted an example of a free space. This is a very basic site I started, (oughta finish), on the free web server space my ISP gives me, for free.

But first I must explain why it is incomplete. My grandson wanted to help me and stuck something in the back of the computer, (kinda like a grilled cheese in the VCR). Anyway it fried my computer and I lost all my information. So it will take me a few more days to get everything up and running again.

Now for some of the free stuff, well more free stuff. Many web sites have what they call "Flash Intro". For a personal web site it is fine, but I wouldn't put one on a site you are trying to make money from. Mostly because it is a second or two they watch an intro instead of looking at your product, nough said about that.

There are thousands upon thousands of sites out there to get them, but here are a couple; http://www.flashfair.com/free_flash_intros.html and http://www.freeflashmedia.com/freeflash.html. Play with those two first, after you get the hang of it, search around for exactly what you want.

Next, if you want to start with a pre-made web site template there again are thousands of them out there but try this first; http://www.freewebsitetemplates.com/. And if your interested in purchasing one, this site will give you the general idea of what to expect price wise; http://www.flashmint.com/show-type-flash-animated.html, I never bought a template, so I do not know how well they work.

If you want a forum on your site check out; http://www.freeforums.org/, or for a free guest book go here; http://www.guestbooks4free.com/.

Now to pretty up your site, everybody uses banners and buttons, here are several sites to check out; http://www.abcbanners.com/ or http://www.highpowergraphics.com/bannerbuilder/ or http://www.fg-a.com/buttons2.htm or http://www.banner-generator.net/en/bannergen.php?pid=1&genaction=2. Again, just a few of many.

And if you want any music on your site you have to check out; http://freeplaymusic.com/index.php. That is the coolest site I have found to date. It is a Productio Music site, and it has almost any music or sound you may need.

Now that you have a good handle on some of what is available out there for free, lets turn that into money. The first and easiest is to get a Google Adsense account. Try this link; https://www.google.com/adsense/login/en_US/?destination=%2Fadsense%2Freport%2Foverview&gsessionid=Kmebj2fPr-Y. You see it all over this site, [ads by Google]. The same thing but you have your own account and you get paid if enough people click the ad's. Another good place is 'Commision Junction'; http://www.cj.com/. Same principle, but it is approved on a company by company basis. Places like 'Amazon, Best Buy, Lands End, etc. Both places supply you with the banner and/or ad and all you have to do is post it on your site. Well that and hope people come to your site and click on the ad's.

Now getting people to your sit, that is much trickier and will take a bit of work. Although this is one of my domains, it and the web site are now for sale, (the site is locked down for now), open Google search and put in "wii-universe.com". You see, you need to help your domain/web site be found on the search engines. For that matter again open Google search and type in my user name, "qtrtilldawn", and you will see everywhere I have been. And no, don't judge me by what you see or read, judge me by what you know.

Web Pages step one

OK, here goes. In order to do any web site publishing the first thing you'll need is an HTML editor. There are many free versions available out there, but the one I am partial to is from "SourceTec", called 'Sothink HTML editor'. You can get the free version here: www.sothink.com/.../index.htm. Even though it is a free version, they also have some free add-ons to go with it if you wish. The paid version is probably well worth the price, but I still use the free version.

I also have a paid version of 'Abobe GoLive CS2'. It is excellant but has way more than I need at this time. I'll tell you more about that later.

Believe it or not, if you have "Outlook Express" if works well as an HTML editor also. Just go to 'Format' then click "Rich Text (HTML)". Then whenever you 'Create Mail' across the bottom you will see; Edit - Source - Preview. In the edit mode, it is much like any word processor, normal type, insert links and/or pictures. In the source mode it will show you the way it looks in HTML. And you know what preview means. Outlook Express is what I used until I hooked up with the Sothink editor.

Another under used editor believe it or not, "Word Pad" which virtually comes with every Windows. If your running windows, open a web page, any web page. Right Click the mouse, then scroll down to 'View Source'. It will open Word Pad with the web site HTML. You'll have to understand just a little programming to understand what a CSS file is before you can actually use it to make a direct copy.

If your like me, and are a cheap SOB, you can go here to learn most of the basics of editing, "W3 Schools"; www.w3schools.com/default.asp or Dynamic Drive; http://www.dynamicdrive.com/. Just remember that there are set rules for HTML, and the first lesson is it's order. For instance open an Outlook Express, Create Mail then click Source. You'll see basic rules: First at the very top, it tells the computer what it is and what language. Then it will have the <HTML> tags. Within that it will have the <HEAD> section and the <BODY> section, (notice the </tag> closes them). The head section tells the body section what to do with the information. The body section is where all the information is.

That is a very, VERY basic explaination, but you'll understand it very soon. But I would bone up on your HTML skills before you go much further, but if your ready to jump in here are a few suggestions. Practice on a free site before you purchase a domain and/or web space. That being said.

There are many places to get your own domain name, (yourname.com), and your free to use any of them, but I personally prefer 1&1: http://order.1and1.com. They are not the cheapest, but many of the other ones have that cheap today and expensive tomorrow deals, as does 1&1 but they are very upfront about it. I believe their domains are still only $6.99 per year. And it comes with a starter hosting package. I have a different package with many more extras, so I am unsure what all is available in the starter package. The cool thing about owning your own domain is now your email can be: username@yourname.com.

Now my ISP provider gives me free web space. Mine happens to be 'Mediacon Online Max' and they give me 60MB of server space. Mediacom is all over the country, so if thats your provider: http://home.mchsi.com/. Thats a very large personal web site. I am pretty sure other ISP's also provide at least some PWP, (personal web page), space. If not just search for free web space, another one I have used in the past was WebSamba: http://www1.websamba.com/. But they, and anything for free, comes with a price. They post an ad on the bottom of every page, (just like yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc). I would check your local ISP first.

OK, now you know a little about how to go about programming HTML. And an idea of how to get your own domain name/server space. Next is the way you upload it to the website. WAY easier than most think. First, many people try to use the "easy web builder" that comes with most server space. DON'T! Or at least do not depend on it. If your totollay green at this, practice, practice, practice. Then go back to the beginning of this blog, remember; Right Click - View Source, copy and paste it into your chosen editor. Change what you want, then use a good FTP program to upload it back to the web site.

FTP you ask, well it's 'File Transfer Protocol' which basically is just a W3C rule so other computers will be able to read what you wrote. Everybody write in the same computer language, (not necessarily the same verbal language), but computer language. I personally like and use WS_FTP: http://www.wsftp.com/. They have a free trial version, but it is so simple to use, I purchased it, (I think about $40, no support version). But both Sothink and Adobe have an FTP program in them, (even the free Sothink).

If you do not know already, Windows has an FTP program in it as well, but I dislike it and only used it once so I am unsure how well it works. [You know, 'My Network Place"].

There you have the first three steps in web site design and publishing. I will show you more in depth information on each of these subjects and more if I see any interest. My next blog will show you how to get paid for posting your own web site.

Internet/Web page(s)

Now, as the weather is warming, I will spend less and less time online. I am still willing to help any members set up and/or maintain your personal web site. I must emphasize the word, HELP.

I have a decent knowledge of setting them up, and most anybody can get some free space somewhere. First check your local ISP, (the people you hook up through). Mine for instance gives quite a bit of free space, per email address, which I have eight.

Or there are others like MS Office, websamba, etc. There are free blogs and forums as well. The only problem is they put their ad on the bottom of each page. But you are all used to ad's!

So if you are interested in maybe having your own presence online, it can be done. I get nothing out of this except the pleasure of helping a friend. The only thing I ask is let me post a return link to this site because this is where you saw this post. [Not me, the main page.]

Only personal pages, about you, your interest, etc. I wouldn't post a paid page unless you actually pay. But you can add ad's much like there is on this site and if enough people click through, you can make a couple pennies.

Just a thought.

New to this site.

This is actually a continuation from my first blog entry. I am new to this site, this morning to be more precise. And I am having a hard time learning how to navigate through here. For instance, how would I search for people in or around my area? Or search for people that have the same interest?

I tried a tag search, but either there is no match, or I am doing it all wrong. Maybe it is still a small membership site, but from what I've read so far, there are members from a year or so and one person said it was even posted on a radio show. I got an email, (normally don't open them but did this time).

Anyway, as in my first blog, I am interested in getting together for misc. sporting events. Don't worry, it can be done. A saying I live by: "Don't worry about the thousand things you can no longer do, think about the ten-thousand you still can".

Well any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I am single and would love to find a companion, but I also love friends, so anybody can add me as a friend.

WNC Whitewater rafting?

If you have read my profile, you will already know I am a Bi-lateral AKA, and I don't let that slow me down. I already changed my "disability" to "Inconvenienced". Pain in the arse as it is, or anybodies situation is, it should not slow us down.

Anyway, I am bored with winter, and was actually planning a whitewater rafting trip already. I will still go it alone the first time to check out the best company and the services available now. [I have gone many times in the past, but things change].

Depending on the turn-out, severity of attendees disabilities, (cost of a guides help), etc. The standard cost is from $15 to $40. each. add snacks and/or lunch expect another $10. That is the standard off the street prices.

As a group, they have always in the past gave a hefty discount. Partly because we can be used as advertising for them. Call a few local papers to cover the trip and they get free advertisement.

I was heavely involved in my local "Disabled Veterans Sports Clinic" through my local VA hospital. We did many things, whitewater rafting, water skiing, horseback riding and snow skiing, (both local and in Co.). If I can get a decent turn-out through here, we may be able to combine a trip for an even better discount or even free.

My user name is my email name on most any provider, but I check the hotmail most often. If you are interested or better yet interested in helping, please contact me. If I get enough interest, I'll set up a small internet site to better explain what is involved.
