Paradoxical Frog Might Solve Problems for Diabetics

3/4/2008 at 07:17 PM

Paradoxical Frog

Could this little green fellow be the answer to Type 2 Diabetes? Scientists think so. The Paradoxical Frog, so named because it shrinks with age (frogeoporosis?) excretes a slimy substance that can stimulate the release of insulin. A diabetes drug based on the saliva of the Gila Monster already is sold in Britain. Could frog-slime pills be far behind? It seems scientists believe the Paradoxical Frog's secretions, which protect the frog from infection, could be an even more effective drug than those already available.
