There is a bird raising a family in my stove fan. What the heck?! The babies screech and twitter in the morning when she feeds them. This apparently makes the fan angry, and it makes a grinding noise that badly frightened my cat the first time she heard it. I have no idea what the loud noise is, but it doesn't seem to bother the enterprising bird who's located a nest inside the part of my stove fan that is on top of my roof.
I tried to further investigate, but apparently Mama Bird has watched too many Hitchcock movies, as she chased me away from the nest and nearly off the roof!
Maybe she thinks the noisiness will frighten predators away? I considered trying to move the nest while she's not sitting on it, but there's really no good place for it close enough by that she'd find the babies. I guess I will have to resign myself to being woken up by GRRRR-THWUP from my kitchen when she gives the babies their break-of-dawn feeding. Wonder if I can get some photos of them?
Has anyone ever had this happen? Got any ideas on how to encourage Mommy Dearest to nest in one of the trees in the yard, instead of in my stove fan, next time?
The photo in this post is from Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds," and is not of the bird in my stove fan... but it's pretty close, considering she attacked me!

growing up there was a large crow in my neighborhood that would swoop at us kids during the day--it actually hit me in the ear once as I was mowing the lawn. :) birds can be scary, eh?
