Robotic Wheelchair Uses Spaceship Technology to Load Itself in Van

Researchers from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, have designed a laser-guided wheelchair docking system that allows a powerchair user to transfer into a vehicle and then loads the chair automatically into the back. The laser guidance system uses the same technology that the uncrewed spacecraft Jules Verne used to dock with the International Space Station this month.

 

The robotic guidance equipment can be retrofitted to existing commercially available wheelchairs and vehicles. Video below:
