Woman survives 30 foot fall down elevator shaft with powerchair

According to the Associated Press, an unidentified woman fell 30 feet down an elevator shaft in her motorized wheelchair early Saturday. The woman was trying to catch an up elevator, and slammed into the elevator doors after they had closed, forcing them to open. The elevator was already on its way up, but momentum propelled the woman and her chair through the doors to fall down the shaft. Her powerchair fell on top of her.

Firefighters were able to rescue the injured woman, who was conscious when admitted to the hospital for treatment.
