Stupid things ABs say

We've all been there. We've all been in the situation of having able-bodied (AB) strangers make inane comments or ask downright idiotic questions.
This summer, while waiting in line at the Metrodome for a Twins bobblehead game, one of my front air tires popped. I wasn't moving, had my power off and it just popped. If you've ever experienced a flat tire in a power chair, it's not fun. But, there wasn't much I could do but continue on until I got home. So, I bumped along on one flat front tire. Ka-thump, ka-thump, ka-thumb, through the Metrodome stadium concourse.
The idiotic comments started immediately. The guy behind us in line told my friend (who has back and neck injuries and epilepsy, and who definitely can't lift), to leave my chair outside and carry me to our seat. Say what? The customer service folks at the Metrodome suggested I could park my power chair in the concourse, use one of their manual wheelchairs, but said I couldn't use it the entire games as they had other customers who might need it. Okay, so how do I get back from my seat to my power chair? I don't think so. If I had a dollar for every person who came up to me and said, "Do you know you have a flat tire?" I could have financed my Twins season tickets next year.
A friend of mine. who is blind, experienced similar stupidity. She was late, rushing across her college campus to get to class and missed the walk bridge, instead fell down a flight of cement stairs. Books flew, she flew and landed hard on her back, knocking her breath out of her. She came to with a man hovering over her. Did he ask if he could help? Did he call 911? Did he at least help pick up her books? No, he calmly informed her, "Mame, do you know you just fell down a flight of stairs?" Unbelievable.
I knew my fiance was a special man the first night we met in person. We had spoken on the phone for a week, having long, indepth conversations that were promising. We met at a night spot and had just gotten settled at a table with our ale-based beverages, when a brunette, 30-something woman, sweet smile plastered on her face came up to me, interrupted our conversation, patted me on the shoulder and said, "It's so good to see people like you out!" Taken aback, embarrassed in front of a new man in my life, I sputtered a thank you and she left. My man immediately burst out laughing. And to this day, he'll pop up with an unexpected "so good to see you out!"
Then there's the classics for any power chair user: "How fast does that thing go?" "You're pretty good with that thing!" and "How often do you have to charge that thing?
