After a totally non-funny sleeting, snively storm last Thursday and Friday, today, it finally feels like spring in Minnesota. We were eating lunch today, and someone came in the cafeteria door and a gust of wind folllowed. We're used to feeling cold gusts of wind and this was actually warm. Pleasantly warm. So, although we're getting lots of wind gusts, it's sunny and warm, spring time.
Spring and summer means I can be spontaneous. I can decide I want to cancel my ride home, take the bus downtown or Uptown and then take the regular bus home. Or, I can wheel up to the Indian restaurant next to Target. Or visit the library. All without having to plan my life four days out, which I need to do during the winter to schedule paratransit.
But, the romantic possibilities of last week, the new man who referred to me as Geisha Babe and Sunshine are over. He came on way too strong. Two dates and he told me I was his girlfriend. Then, one night last week, he sent me some writing examples. He has a website and wanted me to be the female voice for romance scenarios. Well, I'm a writer professionally and also an honest direct person. And the sample he sent was just Godawful bad. So, despite trying to be as gentle as possible, I had to be honest. And, of course, he took it badly. Heated emails ensued and finally I just said to myself, "Okay, this just isn't worth it."
One comment he made was that because I couldn't accept him and be his woman immediately, I wasn't a risk taker and wasn't romantic. When I've mentioned these comments to friends and coworkers their reaction is unanimous. They chortl in laughter. Me, I'm the queen of risk takers. And, the only reason I stuck with Wayward Boy for 15 years is because I'm a hopeless romantic. Just proves that there's no way to really know someone from a couple in person contacts and a few weeks of emails.
Oh, well. Life and the search for love goes on. At least I made it two two dates with this man. Perhaps four times is the charm for me.
