Has any one read any good books lately? I'm "reading" MiddleSex at the moment. It's ok I guess. A bit long though.

I've just started reading Professor Khaled Abou El Fadl's "The great theft: wrestling Islam from the extremists." He has some good insights.
I'm reading Ken Follett's 'Pillar's Of The Earth' it's pretty good so far and would recommend it to the group. I dont do a lot of reading but listen to audiobooks, its better to listen to while multitasking, which is what we all do well, i'm sure.
Middlesex was very enlightening .I have known a person similar to this one. I found out how he felt inside. Grandmadeb.
If you are curious about life in afghanistan: "The Kite Runner" title.and the other had "Thunder in the title. (Excuse my fiberfog) The backdrop to the characters put you right there.Grandmadeb
Some good books I've read recently are:
Life of Pi
The Kitchen Boy
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time
Pride and Predjudice
The Other Boleyn Girl
I want to read The Memory Keeper's Daughter but I'm waiting for it to be available on tape through NLS Talking Books
For the person who read The Kite Runner, his other book is titled "A Thousand Splendid Suns" & is also excellent & about Afghanistan. I just finished Snow Flower & the Secret Fan, all about two young girls/women in China in the 1800s; it was excellent. I just started reading "Water for Elephants" today... Loved The Glass Castle & The Memory Keepers Daughter also.

I really liked reading the Omnivore's Dilemma which talks about our food system in this country and traces three very different meals from farm to table.
