I had a bunch of my closest friends over last night for a "board game" party. It was the perfect Winter party theme. With it being 11 degrees out, no one was interested in bar-hopping; especially me (my quad legs just can never warm up fast enough). Anyways, we played Yahtzee, Apples to Apples, Texas Hold 'Em, and another game which I can't remember (it involved picking pieces of a vast medieval pasture and putting them together, trying to form tiny cities. The smart friend brought that game. Ha). All went well at the party except one thing: The red wine.
Yup, that's right folks. I recently just discovered that although I love the taste of red wine and the quick buzz that it gives me, my body hates it the next day. I always wake-up with a pounding headache, making the "red wine hangover" pretty much the worst hangover in the history of hangovers. I'm suffering from it right now actually as I write this. I don't know if it's my Swedish heritage (I'm pretty sure my ancestors never drank red wine, therefore my body just isn't used to it, hence the kick-ass fast buzz I get), or my quadriplegia, but I just don't think I can drink red wine in copious amounts anymore. Quite the shame too.
See, I used to be a hardcore Stoli Raz + sour kind of gal, but I bored of that after 8 months or so (I seem to revolve my "favorite" drink quite often). So what will be my new drink now that red wine has proved to be a sour loser? Boone's Farm, Rolling Rock beer, Appletinis? You'll just have to wait and see ;)

that's the worst..a long all day long hangover, i hope it's gone by now.i am not a wine drinker either, how about heinekins, they work for me just fine :) love texas holdem xoxo
Ah, I've discovered Blue Moon with a twist of orange. :)
One thing I've learned to do is drink a tremendous amount of water before going to bed-- that seems to ward of the headache. Of course, you won't get much sleep having to hit the bathroom at 4 a.m.
After about 10 years of drinking giant dry manhattans, I did final discover the one true hangover cure. I stopped drinking.
It isn't that I lost my appreciation for a perfectly developed buzz Tiff. I just found it impacted my ability to meet functional goals; including the ability to function in a way I discussed in a response to one of your earlier entries.....Highly motivational.
Make sure you include some food and a water to the party. And be prepared to add some Advil in the morning.

I agree with DM, Blue Moon with a twist of orange is a good one. :) Hangovers are never fun though, hope you are feeling better by now! It's been cold in Denver too, yesterday it was 19 degrees I believe. :P
deb,
but how many heines do u need to get a buzz?
deaf, whats blue moon? a beer?
rehab,
i think ill eventually stop drinking, but im not quite ready yet.
ecrow, do u guys have a lot of snow too?
Party on Tiff....Just stay healthy.
I can answer your question about Blue Moon and say it is indeed a beer! It's made by Coors, I believe. We got some snow a couple days ago, and it's snowing again today - nothing major but at least a couple of inches!
