My writer boyfriend returned from China today. He was gone for 12 days on a tour of historical sites for a college review magazine, and I must say, sometimes the best thing for a relationship is time apart. We live together and write together, and have become very close friends, but because of this, we know that time apart is very much needed for "us" to succeed. Lucky for us, he got a comped trip to Asia and was able to help out our relationship in the process. Who woulda thought?!
When I was younger I would have mourned his being away, pining after him day and night, feeling like each passing day was an eternity. But now I'm a mature 28 year old woman who understands the value of the old saying, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." It's a true statement, whether you want to believe it or not.
After returning today, everything seemed like new; fresher, we were both happier, more appreciate of one another's presence. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I'd like him gone a lot; on the contrary rather. Just a trip every few months or so is a nice idea (I think. Hope I'm not wrong on this one).
As a welcome home gift, I made him my mom's meatloaf, which calls for bacon, cream, eggs, breadcrumbs, mustard, garlic salt, and worcestershire sauce. It was my first time making it. I think my happiness from seeing him again guided me in the kitchen :) Because it was KICK!
