I've noticed lately that coffee no longer has the same effect on me as it once did; and I don't know about any of you guys, but this is severely screwing with my life. I first started drinking coffee during my independent living rehab stint at the Courage Center in 1997. I drank their crappy black coffee out of white Styrofoam cups every morning with the other residents. And the funny thing is that I didn't even start drinking it for the beneficial wake-you-up side-effects. I was cold, simply put, and hot hot coffee warmed me up like nothing else.
It was like a miracle. Once I started drinking that miraculous chocolate-colored drink of the Gods, my ever-present coldness was gone. I had instantly and permanently warmed-up. How lucky was I?! Obviously, I soon figured out that along with the warming that the drink brought into my life, it also gave me that great world-famous caffeine buzz. I was hooked. As the years past, a mocha from any area coffee shop was my vice. White chocolate mocha, dark chocolate mocha, a double shot regular mocha with extra whipped cream; it all was heavenly. And every single time I drank my favorite drink, the caffeine buzz was always sure to follow. But now, fast-forward 10 years, things have changed for the worst.
It all started to become noticeable about 2 months ago. My new boyfriend had moved-in with me and was also a fellow coffee devotee. He made us a steaming pot of coffee each morning, and would sweetly bring me in a piping hot cup coffee into my bedroom everyday. It was a to-die-for experience. But as I began drinking his coffee I noticed my beloved caffeine buzz was no where to be found. It didn't matter if I drank 1 or 2 cups of coffee, it just wouldn't come to fruitition. So, as any natural coffee fan would think, I thought maybe my grounds weren't strong enough. So I went to Starbuck's and ordered a triple espresso. Still, nothing. It was like I was drinking hot flavored water. I even noticed that the uber-dangerous Red Bulls no longer did anything either.
What's a girl to do?! Should I swear off caffeine for a few months then start drinking it again, to see if my body just needed a brief hiatus? I'm totally depressed :/ Does my SCI have anything to do with it?

hey me too...........i just said a few days ago that i was just going to quit drinking it. i NEVER drank coffee ever to even acquire the tast i never even tasted it till five years ago and even then i still dont believe i recieved that awesome so called buzz all were talking about all my life, yet it did seem to help me to stay awke longer throughout the day without that H I G H feeling i just dont like, so i initially acquired a taste for it but now to be honest it puts me to sleep like a hot glass of milk before bedtime is suppose to im told so what gives? but to answer your question, and i may do it too.... maybe we should put a ravishing holt to it for a month and then shock our bodies with it again. maybe like marijuana is to some you begin to acquire more or become tolerant of it and cant get the same high or buzz off it like you did those times at the beginning!
