I'm a fan of the Tarot I'll have you know. For a few years now I've been dabbling in the New Age arts; but don't worry, it's not Black Magic no matter what your church may say. My ex-boy wouldn't let me even browse the Tarot section at Barnes & Noble (he was an extreme Born-Again Christian), so after 4 years of his guilt trip, and after I dumped his crazy ass in 2004, it was my time (finally!) to study the amazing Tarot. And yes, it is amazing.
As a woman with a disability; a 20-something hipster with a degree from a liberal college at that, your typical religion doesn't interest me. I was raised Presbyterian (my Dad's ancestors were from Scotland), but like most wishy-washy watered down religions, it just didn't stick. And after my "oh my god devastating injury," well, let's just say the whole Jesus story looked as believable as Alice in Wonderland; we wish it could've happened but let's face it, it never did and it never will.
So since embarking on my life of studying the New Age arts, I've found that reading the Tarot holds the most interest for me. It is usually always right, it can predict things, and it can even act as a therapist, pointing out faults in you that no one else will. So today I did my first "career spread," in which I asked the deck some foresight into any new career opportunities. It was dead-on. Some new things have definitely happened in the last month and it pointed right to it. My Druid-Wicca deck, which I blessed properly after purchasing it, has never let me down.
The funny thing about my reading today however was the end card in the spread; the "what will come" card placement. In that final card slot the card that represents me was shown (one of the Princess cards). What does that mean? Will I become more like myself as my career blossoms and become more true to who I should really be? Thats the one thing about Tarot. Deciphering it can be a bitch.

not sure why you can buy in to the new age stuff, but reject the Christian stuff. i tend to be agnostic about any claim to knowledge that isn't science. no one has ever been able to explain to me how or why either christianity or tarot or anything else is "true" and works as an explanation for how the world is and will be.
i just go with what my gut says....and for me, it's tarot. for other people it's chistianity, some judiasm, and others islam....no one is right and no one is wrong in my opinion. i think that everyone should just believe what feels right for them.
I don't follow Tarot Tiff, but I see a couple things here.
First, anyone who won't allow you to seek a foundation should get broomed immediately. Seems Tarot suggested that to you early on.
Second, perhaps as you free yourself to be yourself, your life will blossom in a way reflected by a successful career.
i like the love card :) xoxo
rehabguy, you sound like the perfect man :)
debbie, in my deck the love card is called "the lovers" card and has a couple coipulating! :)
Hey Tiffiny!
I just love and admire your upbeat approach, your interesting, honest, and necessarily informative, CRAZY-GREAT writings!! - they lift me up! :)
My note here is just a general (neutral?) observational speil on thoughts raised by your thread, so, it isn't intended to preach or be taken in any emotionally-loaded way. :
It's possible my approach to examining religion, including Christianity may be different here, (ie: if one thought simply of Jesus' sayings as akin to those of other scholars throughout history concerned with the human condition - whether he's a Messiah to the thinker in question or not or not - I just, find it all very positive.)
Nonetheless! :)
...I'm also into Tarot, and like to say that just because something doesn't jibe with my current beliefs (or even those that were "pre-fabbed" via my baptis;-) - if it's making me uncomfortable because it gives me pause for thought or consolation I don't find elsewhere - or I come across any interesting proposiotion that fills in spiritual "gaps" in my life - if any such new idea has merit at ALL, or better - gives my life needed positivity, why not go with it, and look into it, and don't reject those things right off.
No side of any such debate of theologies and such will look too smart if either end just debars from all consideration the viewpoints from the other side of things!
One thing I believe about those who are called, with intention of complimenting their character, very religious, is that, perhaps they are more religious than some, but I bet alot of that is desperation to know that Someone, Somewhere, will eventually tell the less-fortunate of us "don't worry - you were, in an essence, "Punk'd"! And now it's over and yer going to Heaven" etc..
Well maybe not perfect....maybe.
