As a C6 quad, I have zero real movement in my hands. I can move my wrists and my fingers were molded a particular way by my OT therapists when I was first injured, but when it comes to really gripping anything, or being lithe with my hands for that matter, I can't. Not even on my best I've-Taken-All-My-Vitamin days.
Now, it's been 14 years and I've gotten as used to this condition as I can, but there are times of the month when it becomes unbearable; particularly when my PMS is worse than usual. Case in point: Yesterday. As we all know PMS can bring the "dropies," the phenomena of being clumsy and dropping things more than usual. And yesterday, my 1 bedroom condo looked like a war-zone. There were hats all over the floor of my walk-in closet, a pile of change sitting on the floor underneath the table where I keep my purse, a new bottle of Aveda conditioner on my bathroom floor under the counter, and my digital camera case under my computer desk. And I was too lazy to haul out the awkward reacher to pick-up all my crap that I dropped throughout the day (Did I mention PMS also makes you lazy?).
I was so pissed at my hands, needless to say. Sometimes the littlest things, like bending over and picking up a Minnesota Twins cap, shouldn't be hard, but it is. And I just can't stand it.
So here I sit, the day after, patiently waiting for the cure.

Hey there Tiffiny,
I don't know if you've given any concideration to trying Depo birthcontrol shots. For me and alot of other chicks it eliminates "your little monthly friend" entirely. I haven't had a period or PMS for years thanks to it. It makes life easier getting a shot every 3 months rather than a)bleeding and b) emotional rollercoster regardless of whether you're disabled and/or sexually active. Granted you'll have to go to an ob/gyn for an exam first but for me (and my boyfriend) it's the best thing ever. It's worth it.
Tiffiny-
I really enjoy your blogs, your writing does one of 2 things for me, it makes me think or makes me laugh.
I am so with on the "I could get the reacher but so don't want to" bit. Some days I handle it better than others.

Oh, so you mean all this time I could've blamed my clumsiness, laziness and forgetfulness on the darned PMS??? I can't wait for next month! :)
can i blame my clumsiness, laziness and forgetfulness on the darned PMS? pretty please?
ali, as weird as it sounds, i like bleeding every month.
thank you jen!
lol yes deafmom you can!
hi tiff, sometimes you just gotta say what the fuck..leave the mess :) love your new picture :) xoxo
Hey Tiff, I can't relate on the PMS but the drops ... you betcha. Dropping the same item 5 times in a row will bring the expletives out of anybody. Sometimes, just for fun I start counting drops at the beginning of the day. Buy the end of the day, it's not fun anymore. It's the kind of thing that will make you wish you weren't a quad.
The pic is stunning.
