I had a great day planned today. I was going to go to Wasabi, this yummy little sushi joint down the street from my house for a business lunch with a local woman who owns this really cool disabled clothing company. And then tonight, I was off to a rock show at my favorite tiny club in the city to see some sexy young Brit rockers take the stage (The Editors). But after looking online this morning that with the windchill factored in, it was going to feel like it was -45 degrees outside, I knew right then and there that I wasn't going to go anywhere.
I wasn't in the mood to freeze my ass off, you see. If I allowed myself to get uber-cold today and therefore crabby, I know for a fact that the sushi I would have had would've tasted mediocre, and that the rockers would have done nothing to enlighten me; and that's unfortunately what this kind of Arctic-type weather does. It just does me in and makes me a huge bitch. In my defense though, I do have a good excuse. The blood flow in my legs is super slow and takes on whatever temperature they're exposed to, much like a cold-blooded animal. And after the fact, it still takes at least 3 HOURS (3 hours OMG!) to warm-up. And as any quad will tell you, it's a mighty painful wait....not worth it.
It's not fair. Just the other day it was a "balmy" 38 degrees out. I could actually go outside without cursing my ancestors for relocating here from Sweden. But Minnesota just happens to lie directly in the path of oncoming Canadian fronts. We have no choice but to take them on...absorbing the cold and in the course, these fronts ruin everyone's social lives.
Can I say once again how much Netflix does at least to harden the blow of this lonely time of year? If it wasn't for my 6-disc subscription, I would surely go mad.

I am so with you on the cranky when it's cold thing! You just cannot enjoy anything properly in weather like that :P
-45 degrees?! Yikes, I think something like single digits is cold, much less almost 50 degrees below zero. :P
Last night when my relief came in she said it was raining outside...and a little windy. By the time I hit the parking lot the rain was snow, the wind was extreme and everything else was frozen. I got in my car at 31 degrees and after my 20 mph 30 min ride home it was 14 degrees with a way-below- 0 wind chill. Freakin yikes! I did the too cold thing this morning Tiff. A half hour on the tractor clearing snow. That was 9 hours ago and I am just now kickin the shivers. I know when I hit the rack tonight the cold fluids in my feet are going to keep me up for an hour or 2. Stay warm, spring is only...ah hell, who am I kidding...just stay warm.
sayrah, glad to hear im not the only one!
ecrowley, yes....its a whole different "cold" up here :D
