So today was my 6 month tooth cleaning. Unlike most people, I actually don't mind getting my teeth cleaned/seeing the dentist. In fact, I'm the exact opposite. I love it! The way the curved metal scraper feels on my teeth as she goes from tooth to tooth, the way she forcefully flosses between my tight molars; it's all very pleasing and an overall very enjoyable feeling. I liken it to a massage in fact (crazy I know).
But here's the funny thing (ok, there's two things): 1) The hygienist had to transfer me because as you know, I need helping getting in/out of my chair. My hygienist is a short, overweight Russian woman with very limited knowledge of how to do a successful transfer. So, being Russian, and therefore headstrong as expected, she tried to transfer me into the dental chair. This, btw, is a must. Getting your teeth cleaned from your wheelchair, unless you have tilt, will get you nothing but unclean teeth and a hygienist with a sore back. Don't try it at home kids.
So, back to the funny part. She GETS me in the chair, but I'm literally sliding down faster than you can say otto. My head is where the middle of my back should be, and I can tell that within seconds I'll be lucky to still be in the chair at all. So I kindly tell her to quickly come behind me, grab underneath my armpits, and pull me up. She was able to do it, but I could tell she had to struggle. Needless to say I felt guilty. Next time I go I think I'll be bringing my PCA with.
The next funny thing was what she said. "You have cleaner teeth than most people who have full function of their hands." SCORE for me! w00t! I'll admit to you all that I floss nightly, religiously, with my Reach flosser, brush 2x/day with my SonicCare toothbrush, not to mention using a Crest mouthwash after each brushing. Yup, my mom brought my up well. So hearing those sweet, flattering sentiments about my pearly whites truly made my day.
I'm a tooth brushing quad dynamo. Watch out world.

Haha, wow, someone who loves the dentist...you definitely don't hear that too often! Congrats on the pearly whites. :)
And it shows in your smile! I hate the dentist putting his fingers in my mouth-gotta be a age thing. However, last time I was there while we were transfering to the dental chair, my leg bag valve opened up and I peed on the floor. I felt bad but the hygienists thought it was funny. What are you gonna do? Take care Tiff!
lol. thanks guys :)
