So down in my building's underground garage lies the always-appreciated "Handicapped Parking" area. My neighbor who parks parallel to me, who has MS, and a full-size van with a lift. I on the otherhand have a minivan with a dropped floor, and a ramp that unfolds from the side. We're like the ying and yang of wheelchair van people :)
Anyways, since last Friday his ramp has been stuck in down mode, literally blocking my ramp from deploying; because if it did, it'd hit his ramp. It's in THAT bad of a spot. What to do, what do? Problem is, this is also the same guy who bought an automatic door opener for us (I didn't have to pay a cent), so I really don't want to bitch at him out over this.
Thankfully, I've figured out a way to still be able to park and deploy my ramp independently, by backing up all the way to the cement wall (if anything was there it'd totally get crushed). THAT'S how close my bumper must get to the wall, so my ramp clears his. His van was supposedly going to get fixed by the end of the today on Friday, but obviously (today is Tuesday and I'm still secretly bitching), it hasn't.
I am all too aware of how long a process getting a wheelchair-accessible van fixed. Sometimes the mechanics are tools, other times it can take days/weeks to get an appointment. And since he obviously can't bring his van into the shop, he's even more royally screwed.
What would you do in this situation?
