There's really nothing more satisfying than returning home from an awesome event, and realizing your pics are better than you imagined. Well, I'm not the best photographer in the world (my digital camera is the lowest of the low, in regards to what you can buy...hey I'm cheap...give me a break), but my friend Ryan is more than decent (and so is his crazy awesome camera). If you visit my Flickr account here, you'll see my shiny 'n special CONvergence '08 pics folder.
You might be wondering at this point in this particular blog, "What in the hell in this CONvergence in which she speaks of?" Well, to put it in the simplest way possible: It's 4-day geeky event that celebrates everything geeks (not dorks; that's a completely different subset) like: Star Wars, Star Trek, DC and Marvel comic book characters, BSG, Buffy, Angel, D&D (and other various tabletop gaming), LARP, Steampunk genre, and more. Even Tank Girl, my friends. Oh yes...that tasty British comic (and movie starring Lori Petty).
Another fun thing that a couple of my friends and I get into for "CON" is our more than geeky MN Zissou Society (you can check-out our official site here). What we do is simple. We have matching blue uniforms and red hats, we talk at annoying lengths about the importance of conserving freshwater, and in the process we celebrate the amazing 2005 Wes Anderson film, "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" (starring Bill Murray, Angelica Huston, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson, and Cate Blanchett). You can see my fellow member, Nico, along with yours truly to the right.
So what's the point of all this obsessiveness, costuming, and drinking? Well - it's the best fun you'll ever have. I give you a golden-sealed guarantee; a better guarantee than any Kirby vacuum salesman could ever think of. Geeks are also btw, VERY accepting of people with disabilities. I never felt like I stood out once the entire CON.

Yay for geeks! I am one, I married one and we live in our little world of World of Warcraft, Everquest II and all things fantasy fiction. And we like it that way. I'm so glad you had a blast with your fellow geeks. If only we could afford BlizCon as well as Disneyland this year!
so, what's blizcon like?

I'm completely jealous Tiff. absolutely no geeky gatherings here in Grand Rapids.
I wait, and wait, and wait. But sadly nothing comes this way.
We've never been but if its anything or more than what Fan Faire (Sony's version - for EQ, EQII, SWG, and Planetside) has, then it would be a blast. The last time we went, there were live quests, vendor booths, developer and GM conferences, and even RA Salvatore was there that year. He was working with Sony to develop a series of Everquest books, sort of like D&D books. They always have a mid-conference party somewhere cool, but since DH and I don't drink, we always found other ways to amuse ourselves in Vegas.
