Being in a chair, accessories are a must. They're easy to put on, they stand out, they can be inexpensive, and also (most importantly) they are the THING for this fall season. Whether you're digging thin cotton scarves, cool berets, funky bracelets, or whatevs, if you're female, use a wheelchair and are frustrated with clothes not fitting right, look to accessories as your saviour. They've been my blessed saviour in the past few months. I'm having a blast.
Last month I went to Icing by Claires (a store in most malls across the country), and bought a crotched black fedora or some dark purple "geek chic" fake glasses. It might be funny for some of you oldsters out there to imagine, but wearing glasses is actually considered cool now. But not just any type of frame. They must be black or some funky color, and be sleek in the actual shape of the frame part that surrounds the eyes.
And thin cotton scarves are the newest, latest, rage. I'm seeing people wear everywhere I go (here in the Midwest at least. This trend could've already hit and left the coasts already) wearing these thin scarves in any color all around town. They're worn with business suits, jeans, and even dresses. I love scarves! Now French women I can see have had it right all these years. They're notorious for not leaving even they're boudouirs without one smartly tied around their necks. American women are wearing longer versions of the French-style, but they're just as cute and sexy.
And so since scarves are so popular, I have 3 in my possession: A light blue one, a multi-tone blue and purple one, and my latest one (picked it up at Urban Outfitters) a sparkly silver one with light purple threads hidden throughout. I actually love my latest scarf. It looks great with my full-of-holes jeans.
So if you're not on the accessory train yet, get on it. It's seriously the best thing any woman who uses a wheelchair can do.
