Hi Tim,
"Disaboom 2.0?" Software version? Human interaction?
One of the things I have been very, VERY tempted to do is sit down, and write up the following resumes:
Thomas Weiss:
1) Editor/Writer
(I know; believe it or not I *can* behave myself...)
2) Moderator
3) Marketing Assistant
4) Manager
5) Database Specialist
(of some form)
And perhaps others, in an attempt to get Disaboom to bring me on board. I have been watching Disaboom since it was a splash screen and a prayer. Disaboom has hired Lily and others since that time. If you or someone else has been reading my blog, you know very well who I am by this point in time. I have studied, worked with, and am a part of, the Disability population in this nation. I have more academic credential initials than letters in my signature. I am flexible about designation as well. BRING ME ON BOARD; please.
Work from home? Done. Drive to Denver; sigh - Ok. I have been working for C.N.A. wages for FAR too long, but I am not about to argue with you about those wages either; grin. Individually expressed opinions through a blog on Disaboom are just that - "individually expressed opinions." I am very capable of presenting myself professionally, and following policies and procedures. Debate on a website is debate on a website; I won't pick on issues in the office either.
Let's get things done.
TWO:
Disaboom is losing it's, "Personal Touch." From this post I can see that there are happy, and busy, minds at Disaboom working on upgrades to this very Disaboom. Perhaps I have awarded Disaboom the, "Grinch Award," too easily? Maybe not; quotes from the Discussions section stagnate, articles presented on the main page are beginning to seem repetitive. The advertising is at an appropriate level, in my eyes. However; we are in the very depths of the holiday season, and there is not a single word, not a single image - nothing on the Disaboom main page giving a single suggestion that it is taking place. There isn't even so much as a politically correct, "Happy Holidays," shown.
Sitting at home, reading through Disaboom on my computer, I look at the Disaboom main page and wonder where the personal attention went. Wasn't the premier of Disaboom a major event not so long ago? Wonderful technological upgrades to version 2.0 of Disaboom aside; that personal touch is a very needed thing around here, Tim. It is one thing for TWeiss to get on his blog and philosophize and, "Bah Humbug," "Elf," and "Socially Criticize;" it is another thing for Disaboom to pay attention to advertisements, articles, and ignore a major holiday season that many of its consumers look forward to year round.
I have also wondered about the level of interaction between persons at Disaboom and those same consumers. Lily has responded to me a couple of times through emails sent. There are discussion boards. Ok. Chat feature; good. What else can be done to present some form of Leadership figures that people can turn to with questions, or help when needed from figures at Disaboom, a major Internet site that is there for persons with disabilities? Amazing technology is only as good as the Human Beings behind that technology, Tim.
Enough rear-end chewing and suggestions. I am always available for discussion and debate at: TWeissMA@Comcast.net. If you would prefer to talk on the phone, drop me an email, and I will send you my phone number. Otherwise, look in my profile.
Thanks for the ear, and consideration,
Tom Weiss.
thanks for the comment, Tom. I appreciate your enthusiasm for Disaboom and its community.
I'll take your comments in regard to Disaboom.com into account as Disaboom moves forward.
spent my 37 seconds...
curious about what this "2.0" thing will actually be like. :)
thanks Coffee!
I cast my vote :)
for what it is worth - I do agree with Tom - give the site more of a homey/holiday look/feeling.
i love lights and snow flakes and la la la :) i wouldn't mind some christmas decorations around or a santa either while we're on the subject :) haha xoxo
I am so totally brand new, I shouldn't be doing this. I would love help in getting around the site and how to meet members. Do you have interest groups? I don't know much about blogging, or what my web address is. Please keep it easy...I'm OK on the computer, but I'm still struggling with my cell phone. What will "2.0" actually mean?
And I agree. Safe, homey, warm, caring, supportive. And general "Happy Holidays".
