Disaboom will be presenting a live Webcast of the National Forum on Disability Issues this Saturday from 12:30pm to 4:00pm, ET. The Forum is being held in Columbus, OH.

The event will commemorate the 18th anniversary of our civil rights law, the Americans with Disabilities Act and will feature time slots for the presidential candidates to individually present their visions for the future of disability policy in America followed by questions by Judy Woodruff, news anchor and journalist ("The News Hour with Jim Lehrer"), who will act as the Moderator.

The latest news is that John McCain will be personally participating via satellite. Barack Obama will not be participating personally in the event, but is sending Senator Tom Harkin in his stead.

If you're not able to view the live webcast you can come back and watch it later, so whether or not you're able to view it live be sure to head on over and sign up to view the event.

I will be attending the event along with Dan Lawton. You can expect pictures, live-blogging and regular reports from us (hopefully some interviews too!) to be published on the Disabled Politico blog.

HI: Make sure you ask pointed questions that pin them down!!! Do not allow waffling or pretty words. We need specifics!!! Make sure as well you get as many different disabilities mentioned since fixing an issue for one; doesnt mean you are fixing it for another. While broad help like the ADA is needed; we also need specific concrete help. Try as well to get in the other federal agencies who are supposed to help the disabled but havent in 8 years (except for HHS). We didnt realise you live in Denver so maybe we can get together afterward you get back?

are there any questions in particular that you have in mind for the candidates? Dan and I won't be participating in the actual moderation of the event, but we will do our best to interview and querry the officials when they are available either before or after the forum.

I have a question if you ever get to query people: How are people with small means supposed to get businesses to become ADA compliant? For example: the mall that I go to for movies and shopping is absolutely not complaint with parking. What can I do other than complain? Nothing. I can't afford to hire a lawyer, nor would I do it if I could. How are we to enforce the ADA rules on our own?

To Lies- Boycot is your greatest weapon. Go shop somwhere else and get your friends and neighbors to do likewise. Collect all the reciepts for six weeks then send al the reciepts to the mall manager and the mall owners. With the receipt include a very nice letter telling them how much you would have liked the money to be spent at their mall - but since they are not willing to comply with the ADA you were forced to shop at other stores. Find out when they were last inspected by state inspectors, if they are non-compliant what is the inspector doing? Complain to your state civil rights office. Have fun collecting reciepts, keeping getting other people to join in. When you are to the point you have so many reciepts you have to "hand deliver" a big shopping bag (of course from a compeitor) bring your local news media along. When was the last time the mall renovated? Did the state inspectors let things slide through?
