Long Term Care

It is important to remember that it is very difficult to injure the spine. While conditions of the spine may be very painful, this pain does not correlate to injury to the spine. Rather than avoiding activity, patients with back-related pain should make every effort to maintain fitness through aerobic and strengthening exercises and everyday activities. Activities can be started in small bursts, 20-30 minutes at a time. In general, sitting, standing, or lying in one position for more than 30 minutes should be avoided. Life should be lived as normally as possible to maintain health and function.
