Concussions are common injuries in sports and recreation. Historically, concussions were not given much attention. But now, with better understanding of the injury, concussions are being appropriately recognized. It is a serious and complex injury that causes a significant disturbance in brain function. A formal medical consultation for proper evaluation, treatment, and return-to-play management is strongly recommended. Significant and sometimes devastating long-term problems can develop if the concussion injury is not properly managed. The ultimate goal with any concussion injury is to have complete resolution of the symptoms of the concussion and have a safe return to play.
