I just wanted to take a moment and thank whoever may have been responsible for this posting. I am a paraplegic w Spina Bifida and have been in bed now for over 3 months recovering from decubitus ulcers on my heels and my ischium. I am definitely going to look into this and book and quite possibly make the investment since I don't have any idea how much longer I'll have to be here! I have been searching for ways to rebuild my upper body strength. Hopefully this will be my ticket! Thank you again

thank you for your comments about my article. Unfortunately due to length restrictions it could not be as inclusive of "invisible" disabilities as I would have liked. I'd love to talk to you further about this, and about your library's holdings.

Have you heard of the book "If It Weren't for the Honor of the Thing, I'd Have Rather Walked, Untold tales of the ADA by Jan Little? I haven't read it yet, but I placed it on hold at the library.

To access the Seattle Public Library lists go to http://www.spl.org and then to "Readers Corner", down to "staff-created reading lists", ADA/special services.

We need to not only be aware of physical disablilities, but neurological and emotional, too. Seattle Public Library has a booklist called Disabilities in Fiction, and a separate list of Disabilities in Mysteries. Some of the more recent protagonists have been an autistic in "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightime" by Mark Haddon, and a new book I just put on hold has a protagonist with Tourette's syndrome, "Motherless Brooklyn" by Jonathan Lethman. Not all disabilites are immediately apparent, and we need to be aware of those among us who have "invisible" disabliities.
