Great Article. I read a Reader's Digest story years ago about a young man who was an up-and-coming golf champ who lost one of his hands in an unfortunate accident. He had an adaptive prosthetic clamp devised to hold the club in a correct manner and just kept right on going. Even though he could no longer play at a championship competitive level, he still played at a vastly superior level.

Please do not forget that the DAV sponsors First Swing clinics through the National Amputee Golf Association and has for many, many years. These are given countrywide, open to anyone with a challenge golfing, whether a new golfer or veteran and also teach practitioners how to use golf as a rehab tool. See www.nagagolf.org.

Also, new organization is being formed directly for the purpose of a national competition for all forms of disabilities. If you would like information, please go to www.usdgo.org and we will keep you updated. We plan our first national inclusive tournament (amputees, mentally challenged, those with neurological challenges, hearing and sight impaired and more) for 2010. Thanks. Pattie Cox

The National Amputee Golf Association. www.NAGA.org Since WWII, N.A.G.A. has been having USGA sanctioned National Championships. If you are missing a limb at a major joint, you qualify! Reading this article bought back feelings of nostalgia. As an aging athlete who played wheelchair basketball at the club and country level I know the importance of sports and the role it plays in boasting self esteem.

I am elated to see that your article stressed the importance of good equipment, knowing the rules and involving youths in the game. I've already checked out the reference sites such as sportsaid and they have an array of chairs and fitness equipment to support the athlete’s development. This info I am passing on to the sports association I’m apart of. Thanks very much for this insightful article.

I have participated in several Adaptive Adventures events and enjoyed all of them. Joel and Matt do an awesome job setting up the events and for some reason mother nature always kicks in with lots of fresh powder for our ski camps.

WHEELCHAIR FLOOR HOCKEY - www.thewchl.com - The Wheelchair Hockey League of Michigan (WCHL) was created for the enjoyment of participating in hockey. The purpose of this league is to provide an appropriate means for persons in wheelchairs to have the opportunity to play hockey, and have the chance to engage in the competition and excitement of hockey. Our League includes players in electric and manual wheelchairs. The WCHL currently has 36 players, divided into four teams.
