I was inspired to finally return to my athletic 'old' life from reading your comments.

I have been single and double below knee amputee and am now a bi-lateral above knee amputee.

I was a former Olympic swimming contender in my (much) earlier years, gymnast, runner, good dancer, quite good at all sports/athletics. With a circulatory disorder I have refused the usual 'first limbs' that they have offered.

At 38 yrs old, the attitude is one of, "well what would you want to do that for at your age now anyway?" which has really infuriated me, though with much in my private life to contend with (four kids, divorce, finances etc) I decided until now to stay seated for comfort!

I have recently looked into disabled sports in the UK. I keep thinking "Well where do all these paraolympians train then because I can't find them?" If you could suggest anything I would be grateful.

You mention that you now work for Endolite. Excellent! That sort of job would suit me down to the ground! Anything which improves the charade for limb wearers played in the UK would make me seriously smile!

Anything you could recommend I consider with Beurgers Disease. The pinch on the artery is now behind the tummy button, though I do obviously have some residual limbs, they must be seriously 'taken care of'?

It is clear that the "Living" section is not communicating with the "Community" section regarding this TV spot. Liberty Mutual is very active in the insurance industry fighting legit Workmen's Comp claims, and one of Disabooms' members, "Wheeping Willow," is in a fight for her very life regarding denial of medical benefits. The ad agency that did the background work for this is probably not the company that pays for the media (Liberty Mutual).

It's great to see disabled people in good roles on TV, but the advertising should reflect actual policies of the advertiser.

I love marlee matlin! she's my idol & her run on DWTS was breath-taking every week! I will sure miss her!

I think it's so cool you got to chat with her and have already met her. That is a life goal for me to meet her someday =]

Hi Marlee,

I believe in you can do anything wonderful ways in successful actress or dancer to be fair to hearing people in your own career that I had watched you and Fabian danced all of beautiful different ways which I hope you and Fabian can beat all of other contestants that you will be winner in my prayer to answer sooner this time..since I watched you in your first movie " Children of Lesser God " as like I cant remember this correct movie title when you were younger woman. Also I am hearing impairment to have my two hearing daughters whom knows sign language very well since they were small kids..I am so proud of you to do your own strength, smart, goof active,cheerful, good smile lots and good positive in your own ways in your own career so successful as you are deaf actress as well as great job..

I love Marlee Matlin -- I think it's CRAZY wonderful you interviewed her Karen. Loved reading this post. I haven't watched Dancing with the Stars before but now I'm going to make sure it's recorded on my DVR.

I distinctly remember a great episode of ER which starred James Woods as a brilliant professor with ALS. While the character was played by a non-disabled person, it was a convincing and emotional performance. Abby Lockhart (played by Maura Tierney) tries to convince the professor that he shouldn't give up his fight with ALS. This portrayal of those not suffering trying to figure out why someone would give up so seemingly easily, is very realistic in my opinion. While I certainly don't think I would want to give in to my fight with Duchenne muscular dystrophy somewhere down the line, I also respect the decisions people make for themselves. I think that ER should get more recognition for shedding light on the differences between what the disabled want and what the non disabled feel.
