Over the last five years, thousands of women and men have united in 12 cities across the country to walk 60 miles over the course of three days. The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a walk for people who are determined to do their part in the fight against breast cancer; its purpose is bold and its length is challenging.
So what exactly is the Breast Cancer 3-Day? The 3-Day is a walk, not a race. You don’t have to be an athlete to participate, but the event does cover 20 miles each day which alone will be challenging. The Breast Cancer 3-Day benefits the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to fund breast cancer research and community outreach, and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, to provide an endowment for breast cancer initiatives.
The Breast Cancer 3-Day is about people – people who are committed to making a difference, committed to changing lives, and committed to putting an end to breast cancer. The 3-Day also involves making a commitment – a commitment to train and prepare yourself for 60 challenging miles over various terrains and, perhaps, in inclement weather, and a commitment to raise a minimum of $2,100. I first heard about The Breast Cancer 3-Day from a local CBS news anchor a few years ago. She had a camera crew follow her through her training and the actual event documenting her experience. I thought there isn’t anyone who has not been touched by someone who has had breast cancer – a family member, a co-worker, a friend, or the person sitting next to you at church or the movie theater.
