If it’s one thing my travels have taught me, it’s this single, unwavering rule: Appreciate home. You see, in order to become an emboldened disabled traveler, you must be willing to expose yourself to independence-limiting situations. And the comfort of knowing that home is just a flight away, can cure even the worst, “How will I manage <insert disability dilemma here>?!” travel anxiety. So please, always remember, that your cozy cave is there, patiently awaiting your return.
Travel gives me that much needed adrenaline rush. Oh yes, the sweet rush of adrenaline. Sitting throughout my life as I have, can really take its long, Neverending Story, toll. So naturally, that’s where my passion for traveling comes in.
I knew even before my injury, that traveling was something I was destined for. Unfortunately however, I never got the opportunity to travel “on foot” before snapping my neck in two. But hey, I’ve been aiming to make up for lost time. Just check-out my past, jet-setting year.

In late September 2006, I was invited to a posh oceanside wedding in Cape Cod (located in Massachusetts, for those geographically-challenged). With a tent erected last minute due to inclement weather, the East Coast once again proved to be reliably accessible. There was an automatic lift directly in the tent, bringing wheelchair-using guests to the bar or dining room level. This level of accessibility was impressive. Needless to say, I enjoyed the wedding, which by the way served the freshest array of mussels and crab, this Midwestern girl had ever seen.

I can't believe Wheelchair Getaways made you meet them in a back parking lot. I travel a lot and used to use them, but now I have done everything to avoid it. They try to act like they are the biggest van rental company in the country, but they don't even have store fronts? Does anybody else know of a wheelchair van rental company besides Wheelchair Getaways?
