Are you sick of always giving the same types of gifts to your sweetie? Are you looking for something new and exciting to give your active loved one? Well we were too, so this year we decided to explore fun new ideas of gifts to give your sporty significant other, things that will do more than just add to the waistline.
Adaptive Golf
If you or your sweetie likes golf, there are numerous adaptive golf products on the market to enable anyone to play. Check out Access to
Recreation’s catalog for many of these products.
If you have a mobility impairment and need an adaptive golf cart, the coolest one we’ve found on the market is Otto Bock’s Paragolfer, (but it doesn’t come cheaply!).
After you have your adaptive gear, check out a fun adventure at ESPN’s Golf School, where you both can have a top end golfing experience and really improve your game.
Keep Cool
When the temperature heats up, we both like to play outside doing various sports, including biking, golf, basketball, and tennis. As a person with a spinal cord injury (SCI), Muffy is constantly concerned with overheating when she recreates outside in the hot summer months. A great item we found is the Misty Mate portable mister. It’s perfect for any outdoor sport because it can clip or hang almost anywhere and the adjustable hose sprays a steady mist which helps to keep your body temperature cool. They have several different types of portable misters, all priced from $10-$35. It’s a great gift idea for anyone who likes to play out in the hot sun!
If you still want to keep the romance, but want to do something more than just dinner and chocolates, why not look into doing some recreational activity together? There are lots of great companies on the web that offer fun and exciting activities you can do together, ranging from a day on the slopes or golf course to the ultimate adrenaline rush: flying air-to-air combat against each other in a light attack fighter plane!
Check out these companies for great adaptive equipment gift experiences you both can enjoy:
• Cloud 9 Living
• Xperience Days
• Gifty Box
• Signature Days
Or plan your own romantic excursion, like a snowshoe or hike in the mountains with a picnic lunch, or a hand bike ride treasure hunt, with fun and romantic treats for your loved one to discover. One of our favorite winter activities is spending a few hours together at the local tubing hill, laughing and screaming as we slide down the track!
Whatever your activity or sporting level, it's about expressing your love and appreciation for each other. We think there’s no better way to do that than sharing time together doing recreational activities you both love. And if you’re not big on some activity that your sweetie enjoys, a great way to show your love is to join him or her in that activity; try to find a way to make it fun for you both. Overall, spending time together is the best gift you can give each other and your relationship.
