Preparing an individualized education plan (IEP) checklist can be stressful and at times overwhelming for parents, students and teachers. But the new (IEP) Checklist application for the iPhone brings the law to your fingertips and makes it easy to cover checklist information with your cell phone. Best of all, it’s free.
The IEP checklist application is a simple and unique reference system to organize, update and access all information for a child during and after IEP meetings. Get the free IEP checklist app download and watch a video showing step-by-step instructions on how to use the application.
For each IEP meeting you can create a heading, such as “Sarah 2010.” Thirteen categories are available under each heading on the checklist, including:
- IEP team members
- current performance
- annual goals
- transition plan
Within these categories are subcategories that you can choose to use or ignore, depending on the areas that need to be covered. The student placement category on your IEP checklist application, for example, consists of Environment, Interaction, Justification, and Coordination. These subcategories provide the federal regulations for special education law on the top of the screen, and an area to make notes below
The application, developed by the Virginia-based Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center, is the first iPhone application for special education, more specifically special education laws. The purpose of the IEP checklist is to support the educational needs of school-aged students with disabilities and help parents access the IEP information they need.
In such a high-stress atmosphere where a child’s best interests are at stake, this application can help to alleviate some of the worry and allow for a more constructive conversation about each individual education plans. Every child has their own needs, strengths, and goals – this application is just one more way to help accomplish them.
