Yeah, I've found that I cant eat potatoes without paying for it later with painful hands, shoulders & knees. Another really good site with natural arthritis treatments is www.thermomedic.com I have suffered arthritis for years & last year an orthopedic specialist told me I had to manage my condition better or I was going to end up crippled. I've watched my diet & used the thermal knee bands & gloves to help me exercise with gentle walking & I can feel an improvement. I don't have to use crutches now so I can say things are improving. I've decided to put off surgery for a while longer cause Im feeling fine!!!!
HI , HOW DID U FIND OUT THAT U HAVE ARTHRITIS?
It was really hard to get a correct diagnosis at first, but it was really a process of elimination & lots of tests & finally I found a really good arthritis specialist who has a fairly sensible approach to arthritis treatments. I'm pretty restricted as to the meds I can take so he has some good natural therapies, such as controlling diet, wearing therapy garments & simple exercise such as walking.

My OS told me. He showed me my x-rays after they reassembled my leg and pointed to my knee. Because I had so much damage from the accident my knee joint is not nearly as smooth as it was. I noticed it after most of the swelling had gone down and every now and again I get one of those sharp stabbing kind of pains right in the joint, usually mid-step. Sometimes I get them a lot and other times I go days without any.

To Rishka: Your doctor can order an x-ray which will show the state of possible detrioration of your bones. This is one indication of the condition, which also involves inflammation etc. Check WebMD. The Arthritis Association recommends walking in swimming pools with water over 84 degrees, or specialized classes for arthritis. They can be very helpful, but yes, diet also plays a huge part in controlling the inflammation. Good luck.
Osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis seem to respond to an increased dietary intake of fish oil, while gout benefits from avoidance of alcohol and offal meats such as liver.
Research has shown that supplementation with fish oils (eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA and docosahexaenoic acid, DHA) can markedly reduce pro-inflammatory compounds production, resulting in significantly less morning stiffness and painful joints in rheumatoid arthritis patients.
Studies on the effect of fish oil supplementation on eight measures of arthritis severity including the number of tender joints, number of swollen joints, extent of morning stiffness, grip strength, erythrocyte sedimentation rates, and overall global assessment of disease severity has shown improvement.
Long-term supplementation with fish oils was found to be beneficial for rheumatoid arthritis patients and may lessen their need for other rheumatoid arthritis medications.
