    • To fellow sufferers,

I have posted before on this site explaining the connection of CARNITINE and PPS symptoms. I am taking CARNITINE as I have explained in a previous posting; and I feel so comfortable with my body - the lack of pain and fatigue. I buy it from GNC, a vitamin store chain. I got Polio in 1946 at the age of 2. Polio settled in my right leg. And my left knee has been operated on 6 times - surgeries 1 and 2 where to stunt growth of leg, surgery 3 was for torn legaments & cartledge, surgery 4 was for lump under knee cap, and surgeries 5 (1994) & 6 (1995) were for knee replacements. I had two surgeries on Polio leg - surgery 1 for muscle graft, which failed, and surgery 2 to eliminate brace worn for 15 years. In 1997, I went back into the brace. I married, had 4 children, with 6 grandchildren. I cared for my Mother (mental problems) for 7 years, until she died, care for my twin sister (inherited mental problems (I am the lucky one)) since 1997, who I have guardianship of, care for 2 grandchildren for the past 14 years. Because of my responsibilities, I cannot slow down; so my only option, is to take care of myself.

I wish the best for everyone, and hope your personal situations, get better - not worse. I guess, we still have to keep on, keep on.

      Holly

    • I too have been helped tremendously by the use of 3,ooo units of carnitine a day. Diagnosted with post polio syndrome in January I submerged myself in researching everything I could find regarding treatment. At the time I'd become so disabled that I could hardly garner enough energy to wash the dishes without requiring a 4 hour nap. And the pain had become constant 24/7.

After the 2nd month of taking the carnitine as directed I was feeling much better.  A now 5 months later I am practically pain free.   I still get tired and experience some pain if I do too much, but I swear by the use of carnitine with the added supplements of B-6, Co Q 10, and R-lipoic acid.  All of which are proported to encourage the best absorbsion of the carnitine.

You can find all of the supplements at your local health food stores or online.   I've found that I can save up to 70% of the cost if I order my supplements online.

    • I take L-Carnitine daily for muscular dystrophy thyroid myopathy, which makes me extremely weak.  It gives me endurance so that I can still stand about 30 minutes at a time.  It is also good for your heart.

    • Hi......Aren't there different types of Carnitine?  What kind exactly do you use?  Sobeit, where do you order for 70% less?  I have wanted to start taking Carnitine for different problems in my body.  Good to hear some testimonials here.

      Thanks,

      Sherry

    • Is there  any info about how Carnitine reacts with other drugs. I am taking stuff for high blood pressure, high cholesteral, borderline diabeties and thyroid problems. I am using Alieve for arthitis and an asprin for my heart. Can I take Carnitine to help with fatique and pain from Polio with all this other stuff? I have asked my previous doctors about supliments but their only answer was "you're on your own with supliment"

    • Becky,

My doctor is no help either. I also take high blood pressure medicine. The L-Carnitine seems to help with blood pressure. L-Carnitine is stored in the muscle, your heart is a muscle. If we don't have enough L-Carnitine to begin with, why would adding it to our system hurt us. Once, when I was purchasing L-Carnitine from my local GNC Store, the clerk asked me if it was working. I said, "As a polio survivor, I didn't have enough, so I had to purchase it, and take it, to get enough." I asked him, what the product was for, if they didn't have my problems. He said, that, when working out, and individual looses L-Carnitine, and also, some take it to loose weight, which I haven't found to be the case for me.

My daughter has taken in a foster child, which is very active, and my daughter was feeling very "foggy brained", from being over tired. Since, I was older when I had her, I thought maybe I gave her even less L-Carnitine than my older children, when she was conceived. I told her, maybe she should take L-Carnitine (since I didn't give her enough) to help with her energy level, and she became more clear headed - the brain being a muscle, also.

I have had blood work before taking L-Carnitine and after L-Carnitine, and everything is fine. I like to keep my body working as normal as possible.

      Good luck,

      Holly
