Here are a couple things to keep in mind: 1) Your daughter may not seem like the same person she was before the injury. She will act differently and have different LIKES and DISLIKES. 2) Your daughter will (and this comes from a man who incurred a SEVERE TBI) need to discover who she is INDEPENDENTLY. She will have what appears to be a "checklist" in her head. After I came home from the hospital, I HAD TO GO THROUGH THIS CHECKIST. It is basically a matter of "learning who the heck is IN THIS BODY OF MINE" type thing. My advice to you....LET HER GO THROUGH THIS CHECKLIST. Just make sure that NONE OF THE THINGS on it will lead to PROBLEMS, mentally-physically-LEGALLY! My name is jimmyb, and if ANYONE has any additional questions, Email me at jimmyandjazzy@yahoo.com. AND READ THE BLOG THAT I STARTED TODAY!

hello my name is brian dropkin, i suffered a severe head injury in 1989. i was playing football at highschool and in a practice was hit and suffered a subdurral hemmatoma. i was in coma for 6 1/2 weeks and suffered a stroke, i lost half of my vision in both of my eyes to the left.when i came out of my coma i was parilized on my whole right side. thanks to my mom and dad i had 7 years of thearapy 8 to 9 hours a day. intense thearapy. my dad is a court reporter and knows the law pretty well. every 4 to 5 months during thearapy the insurance would say no more thearapy. well my dad had a lawyer write a mean letter saying if you dont pay, we will sue. get her as much thearapy as you can for your daughter. please be there when she gets depressed and asks why me. its going to happen i guarentee it. i still get thearapy every 6 months for my right side. my whole family has been supportive of me and i am doing great because of them.expect to make many sacrifices for your daughter, my parents did. because of them i am doing great. i now live in my own house with two other male adults with dissabilities and i am working with dissabled adults, and love it. please email me at dropkinb@yahoo.com. i live in phoenix arizona. dont hesatate to email. your new friend brian dropkin

I'm typing this with my daugher at my side - she's just been discharged from hospital
she's going to be in an assisted flat - waiting to go back into hospital for a metal plate to replace her skull
they can't put the skull back in as it was too badly damaged ...
She's slurring her speech and her head's a fright to look at but she's walking well and reading all the posts I put about how she was ...
thank you all for your prayers

hello let me first say i am saddened by your story. i suffered a severe head injury in 1989. i got hurt playing in a high school football practice. i suffered a subdurral hemmatoma. i was in a coma for 6 1/2 weeks and while i was in my com i suffered a stroke. well after i came out of my coma my right side was completly parilized and i lost half of my vision. let me tell you, the key to gettiing your daughter back to as close to the same person she was before her accident, get her as much therapy as you can. if your insurance says no more, get great lawyer an send them a nice letter saying we will sue if you dont pay. i had 7 years of therapy 6 hours a day, intense therapy. it was exhausting, but i am so high functioning its amazing. be there for your daughter when she needs you most. a head injury is avery emotional injury. she will never be the same and that is hard to accept. for me i cried alot and became suicidal and very angry at the world, even to those who love me most, my family. once again i am sorry for her and your family and i wish your family the best. my email address is www.dropkinb@yahoo.com. please tell me how she is doing in the future your new friend brian dropkin

Hi, there. I just now read your post. I hope your daughter's doing much better. I went through a brain hemorrhagw in 20004and have had several ceaniotomies since then. After the first one, to clip my aneurism, the doctors' prognosis for me wasn't very encouraging. I ended up in a coma and had a strokewhich left me paralyzed on my left side.my thoughts and prayers are with you,and your daughter and family. 'Been there, 'Done that. Yet, I'm still here, with God's blessing. Please let me know if you have any other questionds or any updates on your daughter's condition.
