    • BrokenDoNotUse brought up some good universal design articles up in the "welcome" forum so I thought it needed to start down here....so I copied and pastedBig Smile. Maybe we can add some articles to this thread that you have found interesting and helpful.

The articles from United Spinal Associations Action magazine.

      1. One was from the December 2006 issue, called The Seven Principles of Universal Design, by Rosemarie Rossetti, PhD.
      2. Another was from the April 2007 issue, called How to Design a Bathroom in a Universal Design Home, also by Rosemarie Rossetti, PhD.
      3. And in the August 2007 issue Ms. Rossetti wrote an article called How to Make Your Home Accessible

    • Hi Lola,

Thanks for recommending a few of my articles about universal design! I am delighted to know that you found value in them.

I have also posted all the articles I have written about universal design on my web site. www.udll.com

I write a monthly column for Action magazine, a publication of the United Spinal Association.

I am in the final design phase of building a national demonstration home in Columbus, OH. This home will showcase universal design, green building and healthy home construction practices. Mary Jo Peterson is the kitchen and bath designer. We are planning to start construction May 1, 2008. I encourage you to sign up on my web site to get updates about this project as it is built.

      Best regards,

      Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D.

    • Sounds great!  Please keep me posted as to your progress.  I'll check your website as well.

FYI: I am a practicing attorney in the far Northwest suburbs of Chicago, and due to family situations and my background in handling Illinois Accessibility Code/Environmental Barrier Act cases for the State of Illinois, as well as my background in building spec custom homes, I started a company in 2006 called NovaSpring Enterprises, L.L.C., which specializes in building fully accessible custom housing for persons with disabilities and those who want to age in place.  The homes are designed by Charles Schwab, a nationally-renowned universal design architect in the Quad Cities area (Iowa/Illinois).  There are more than 100 different designs.  NovaSpring also works with CAPS-certified architect Tim Meana of FM Custom Design, Inc., on remodeling projects whereby existing homes are made fully accessible.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I'll second Kara's response. Excellent that you have taken the time to share with us! I must have missed the thread "way back when" but I'm glad it popped back to the top so my eyes could catch it the second time through. Wink LOL

My best to you, Dr. Rossetti! Please stay in touch!

    • Mr. Robertson,

Nice to "meet" you as well and thanks for popping Dr. Rossetti's response in this thread back to the top. It appears that Disaboom has some members that can give the rest of us valuable insight, wisdom and friendship.

      Thanks to you all!

      Dave
