      • I am going to be attempting to write a book about how I deal with chronic pain on a daily basis as well as my life as an amputee and I was wondering if you would consider sending me your individual stories as well. It will be written from the perspective of my Christian faith and how I have found the strength each day to live with my pain and continue daily with the activities I am capable of completing. The strength that I receive from above is what I will be trying to convey, my faith in Christ Jesus. I would love to add several chapters on how others have coped and been able to continue on through the many obstacles and barriers pain can cause in ones life.

This will be a book of encouragement with tried and proven ways of getting through each and every day as we go on in this life, what has worked for me can help each person if they are willing to look outside of themselves. It will not be a pity party or a self indulgent trip into depression and a sense of hopelessness, but will, I hope be a book of encouragement and self acceptance where we can understand that we can overcome and go on with life, even thou it may be in a more limited way.

I would like to include a section on the humorous side of amputee life, with real stories and ancedotes of actual incidents that have ocurred in ones life. If you would like to send me your stories I would be grateful and will begin in the near future once I have received a reasonable amount of input. I don't expect that a book like this would make a ton of money, but I think as a resource it would be helpful to all who experience the truama of a limb loss and the life of chronic pain. More and more people are unfortunately joining our ranks everyday and they need practical answers that can help them, their familiy members and friends deal with the new life and challenges that they now face. You can email me at: evangelistdaveharper@comcast.net

By sending me your stories, ancedotes, and information, you are allowing me the rewrite, edit and use your submissions. If you would like to send a photo in your email I will gladly use it in the book to help your story become more personal. I will only use your actual name with your permission. Just mention in your email if your name can or cannot be used in a future publication.

      • This can include anyones stories about pain and overcoming the circumstances and obstacles you face.

        Thank you in advance...Dave Harper

    • Good luck with it Dave.  I've been working on a book idea for a few years. I've already got tons of short stories and memories stored, on disc, for it.  It's based on how I've had a fairly normal life despite being born disabled.  Most of the credit goes to my parents and their not listening to the "professionals" in the 60's that suggested that I be placed in a hospital type of school.   For a couple of people that didn't even finish high school, they are pretty smart about how to handle things.  I just hope I can turn out to be half the parent they are.

But here's a question:  Why do so many disabled people fall back onto religion?  One logically wants to ask, if God is real, would he/she made us disabled?

Again. Good luck with it. Maybe we can compare notes as we work.

    • Don't bitch about the cards ya got, just play the hand you were dealt.

    • Hey man, thanks for your post. I will only say that it is not falling back on religion, it is simply recognizing God for who He is. He may allow us to be born a certain way, and that is quite true, however he never promised that life wouldn't just happen. I have been saved since I was 24 years old and only became disabled 3 1/2 years ago and I recently turned 50. The problem is that for some people it takes a traumatic event to wake them up to the fact that there is a God. Why is it when everything is going fine in life we are content to not even acknowledge God, and then when things go wrong we instantly put all the blame on Him as if He caused the problem. Manking is fickle and very selfish and unwilling to accept that things happen and the real key to life is what are we going to do about it. I saw a loving heavenly Father reach down and literally take me by the hand and carry me through all the pain and suffering I had to endure and still do. He has gotten me through every trial and difficulty I have experienced and I for one am very grateful for his mercy and grace because I know He may have allowed my sufferings, but He certainly did not create them. It is all a matter of perspective and a willingness not to place blame where it does not belong.

Please write me again sometime, my personal email is evangelistdaveharper@comcast.net
