Hi Kelly,
Thanks for sharing your favorite books on universal design. I would like to share mine with you. Go to my web site for the Universal Design Living Laboratory www.UDLL.com and click on the handout at this link: http://www.universaldesignlivinglaboratory.com/assets/documents/handouts/Rosemarie-Rossetti-Handout_New-York-School-of-Interior-Design.pdf
This is from my presentation at the New York School of Interior Design on April 1, 2006. I have a list of books in this handout.
I have also posted all the articles I have written about universal design on my web site. I write a monthly column for Action magazine, a publication of the United Spinal Association.
I am in the final design phase of building a national demonstration home in Columbus, OH. This home will showcase universal design, green building and healthy home construction practices. Mary Jo Peterson is the kitchen and bath designer. We are planning to start construction May 1, 2008. I encourage you want to sign up on my web site to get updates of this project as it is built.
Best regards,
Rosemarie Rossetti, Ph.D.
wow! all that in one home! Are there any pictures of some of the features you have in mind?
Hi Rosemarie!
I've already been to your website and LOVE IT! I believe I sent you an email several months back. I have also read a few of your articles. I'm very excited about the home and would love to be able to visit the site if that is possible. I'm a dealer for Insulspan structural insulated panels and the factory is located in Blissfield, MI. I do frequent visits to MI and 175 miles to Columbus would be an easy trip for me.
If you are in Nashville, TN next year...we are starting a log home (target date January 4th) that is universal designed for a young man who has come home from the war. It is a project that we hope brings about more awareness here in TN and will potentially lay the ground work for many other soldiers and individuals in our state who need a home that functions.
I would love to talk to you more in the near future.
Kelly Costanza
I welcome you to visit our home during construction as well as once the home is completed. We anticipate starting construction May 1, 2008 and expect it will take a year to complete. The home will be open to the public and all ticket proceeds will benefit spinal cord injury research at The Ohio State University. We will be posting photos of the construction site on our web site at www.UDLL.com
I subscribed you to receive e-mails from me from time to time with updates about this project. Let others know that they can also subscribe on our home page. You can see the architecture renderings of the house on this site.
We are using structural insulated panels on the Universal Design Living Laboratory. The company we are working with is PaceMaker Building Systems www.buildwithsips.com They have discounted the price as a part of their sponsorship. We're also using Superior Walls of Ohio for the basement walls http://www.superiorwalls.com/
I'm being considered as a speaker in Nashville the second week in May.if you know of other speaking opportunities in the area, please recommend me. Here's a link to my speaking business site: www.RosemarieSpeaks.com
Good luck to you with your log home project!
Hi Kara,
There are many architectural renderings on our web site that show what our Universal Design Living Laboratory home will look like. There are also computer generated photos of some of the rooms. Go to our site: www.UDLL.com
I have also included many photos from other people's homes with the articles that are posted on my web site. These photos should give you a sense of these features and products.
Rosemarie,
Where are you being considered...if you don't mind me asking? I'm thinking I just need to call you in order to discuss what's going on in Tennessee and to talk about linking your website. I feel there would be wonderful opportunity for many speaking engagements in my area alone.
It's wonderful to hear that you are utilizing SIPs! It's a fantastic product! I also utilize insulated concrete forms (ICF). I work mainly from TX across to the East Coast up into North Carolina (I'm also an advisor). I, of course, make a point to discuss universal design at any chance I can since I design and develop plans and shop drawings for our clients.
I'll keep you updated on his log home project. I truly believe this will open many doors in our area.
Talk with you soon.
Hope you won't mind if I add a couple of my own books to your list.
High-Access Home was published by Rizzoli in 1999
Disablity and Business: Best Practices and Strategies for Inclusion was published in 2006 and includes a whole chapter on Universal Design in the workplace. I would welcome your comments on them and hope they might help you in your work.
