    • I would not rely much on any article I read on the net, especially regarding stem cell "therapy". You probably will not find many people who have tried it because it is not the cureall that certain politicians would like you to believe. If it has any beneficial use, it is years away. I have found that putting your faith  in these pipedreams only to be let down usually does more harm than good. If scientists had any promissing data, private industry would be pouring money into research. Whenever I mentioned stem cells to my GP or any neurologist they would often smile and try not to hurt my feelings by politely telling me they just don't know enough about it yet. Do not let me get you down, that is not my intent, I just think there may be some other therapy that does exist that may be helpful now.

P.S. Drugs may help, but PMA is the best treatment. Good luck and I hope your mother recovers soon.

    • I have a feeling you're talking about the companies who offer amazing cures from injecting stem cells into patients. Something like this?  Those are scams, I am sorry to say. Legitimate stem cell research and transplants are being done, but they cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Ask yourself this: why would a company that is operating in the United States need to send its patients to Mexico to treat them? Several of these companies have been shut down and their proprietors charged with crimes. It's a sad, sad thing, but something you will see in almost anything that claims success where medical science has failed.

Now, if you're talking about stem cell transplants, that's a whole other ball of wax. In transplants they typically give high dose chemo, then harvest your own stem cells from the blood or marrow and then implant them back into you through your blood. It basically reboots your immune system (unlike the other thing which claims the cells go to the problem and fix it without going anywhere else). It's quite intense and is still in clinical trials, but it is also very, very effective. I've been accepted into a transplant program but most imsurance companies won't pay for "experimental" procedures. Gah. Anyway, I hope this answers some of your questions.

    • I wanted to clarify: stem cell transplants being done now tend to be for disease rather than injury. Your mother's stroke is the latter. I can't say this with 100% confidence, but the last time I checked, there weren't any stem cell transplants for strokes as the procedure doesn't address the mechanism to repair injury. If that makes sense.

    • I found it. I think it is very sketchy that they don't tell you EXACTLY what they do. It's very vague and promises a great deal. I'd say it's a scam.

    • Sorry to hear about your Mom. Yes there are diferent types of therapy but beware of anything you read especially on the Internet. You'll see conflicting and confusing opinions. I 'd say wait a few years till it has time to prove itself through clinical trials. Stem cells is still in infancy and the research still is only that research nothing is a given. It's still way too early to tell what stem cells can do or how to make them do what we want them to do. Unless your willing to bet life on untried or experimental trials - I wouldn't get my hopes up so quickly but definitely do your research. Use your best judgement, logic and intellect as to what you believe or read on the Internet for your own safety sake.

    • Hey Didn't China just recently make the news about bad Heparin - a blood thinning agent. I do believe I got Heparin while in my hospital stay for stroke. I don't have a thing against China - but their reputation for bad production values precede them and I rest my case. Think Ethalyn glycol, lead paint, etc. - I think it has to do with lax product safeguards and apparently total lack of them. It's almost as bad as our meat industry but I digress ...

Does the website get updated daily, weekly, monthly or at all ? If you respond - do they respond back ? Do they want money ? These are some questions you should ask your self when dealing with the unknown or unscrupulous.

The thing that scares me about this is the fact that it is almost impossible to find out where the ingredients for our meds come from. How would we ever know? The heparin thing was only one ingredient in it that was tainted. It's scary!

    • I believe the ingredient in the heparin came from a pig - don't know where exactly gland, intestine lining ? Anyway I also think ity was the facility was what tainted the heparin. It was like our slaughterhouse for beef. It was apparently filthy and without the usual and known sanitary precautions used to obtain this ingredient. I think for most American made medicines their still are some precautions used - for lack of a better term. I hope there still are safeguards for the American made ones but who really, really knows. Chemists and Pharmacists - I'm sure but as for the ingredients and combinations - only the drug companies know.

I think you're right about the intestinal lining. ick. I had a student whose father was killed by a pharmacist who was watering down chemo IVs for profit. Can you imagine??
